This is possibly the FilaToon project I'm personally most proud of so far, I really enjoy how it came out.

I hope you guys enjoy it too!

If you have any renders you'd like to share we'd love to see it!

Oh, that's a great question, I can probably check, it wasn't out of the box of course, but it should be re-creatable if that's something you all would be interested in knowing?

The anime highlights (the zig-zags) are actually part of the texture, correct? I think that's what's making such a difference. Are the shadows painted on too? It might not result in absolutely realistic shadows and highlights, but that's pretty much what you need to do (either that, or extremely specific normals, which from what I understand are only useful for specific viewing angles) for a really good anime result. Looks great.   :)

Yeah, both the shadows and the highlights are painted in, it's the only way too ensure that very particular anime look! I try to keep them as neutral as possible so that they work at the most angles, it's a fine line aha! Thanks

I've never really given FilaToon a chance, but this really makes me want to. The work is gorgeous, @Censored! You should be very proud of yourself. Looks very much like Marvel's "What If...?"

And for the shadows/highlights, what do you mean by "painted on"? Another texture, such as a L.I.E (I think that's what they are called), or post-work in Photoshop?

Great job as usual! I just keep looking at these images! They are so wonderful.

So, the Shadows are on different layers in FilaToon, if you haven't used it yet there's a new layer called MatCap, which is where the shadow mask map is - this allows for some unique blending options and colour options if you wanted to experiment with is. And then for the highlights, that's a mask map in the emissions chanel, meaning if you wanted you could even use the filatoon bloom options with it.

This hair is pretty good, my favorite toon hair so far.  Here's a quick render I did with a toonified Minerva (she's a very underrated figure we don't see enough).  I put her in a modern setting with the hair.  It's like she's from medieval times but transported to our time.  I also edited the Mat Cap, gave it that pinkish hue against the raven color scheme.

I'm happy to see you found the mat colour! I love how create people can be, I'm not very adventurous myself
