[Solved] How to use Cross-Figure Resource Kit with Genesis 8.1 ?

ElorElor Posts: 3,157

Hello,

I'm speaking about this product: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-cross-figure-resource-kit

I did read the instructions available on the readme ( http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/59859/start ) and after following them with a G8M hair, it only worked on a G8F figure: if I tried to fit it on a G8.1F figure, I ended with an autofit dialog box frown

I tried to to the cross-figure process on G8M and G8.1M but it didn't change the outcome: the hair won't fit on G8.1F while they do on G8F.

Does someone know how to solve that problem ?

Edit: Solved by @NorthOf45, see here:

Cross-fit is only for Male-Female or Female-Male by adding an entry to identify the item as compatible with the other gender. The problem with some products for G8.1 is that they are made explicitly to look for the G8.1 identifier (although for conforming items, I see little need for it, but materials are another matter). You can either change the compatibility of the hair (metadata, or Scene Identification, then reload it) or edit the original file to work with G8. All G8.1 are, in fact, G8, with additional features. Careful, though, some hierarchical materials presets will also be looking explicitly for the G8.1 parent.

The G8/G8.1 compatibility issues were discussed at length a few years ago (early 2021).

I'm not trying to fit a Genesis 8.1 only product on Genesis 8, I'm trying the opposite: fitting a G8M hair (released before Genesis 8.1 as far as I know) on G8.1F.

Try it on a G8F first, then move it to a G8.1F.

Fit it to Genesis 8 Female, then use that on Genesis 8.1 Female?

Fiting it on G8F then on G8.1F doesn't work: I get the autofit dialog box when I'm trying to fit the hair to G8.1F.

I also tried to save the hair fit on G8F as a figure/prop asset, but I still got the autofit dialog box.

I edited the dsf file of the saved version to change the prefered base to Genesis 8/Female: it removed the autofit dialog box, but the hair is a couple of centimers over the head of G8.1F so not a solution either :/

Which hair is it? There are too many variations of hair to try it randomly...

Okay, I tried it with Willis Hair for G8M. The only way I could avoid the Auto-Fit dialog was to set the Preferred Base to Genesis 8.1 Female.

Sorry, I didn't though about linking it. It's this one

Where did you change the Prefered Base ? When I tried to do it in the .dsf file of the hair I saved after fitting it on G8F, while it did remove the autofit dialog, the hair was not fitting correctly.

Load the hair where it is supposed to go (avoids the auto-fit dialog). Select G8M and set "Parmeters->Cross-Figure->Transfer To: Genesis8Female" to 100%. Select the hair and run the Cross-Figure Setup script. You should get a success pop-up.

Select the hair (you can unparent it) and go to the context menu and select "Edit->Scene Identification". The last item is "Preferred Base", which you have to select from the ellipsis (...) at the far right. Wait for the list to appear (could take a while if you have many products). Search for "Genesis 8.1" (just type it in, it should go there automatically), then select "Female" from the sub-bases. (Just "Female", I have a couple of other erroneous entries there, so be careful).

You can now fit the hair to Genesis 8.1 Female. It will look off a bit, you must dial in "Parameters->Hidden->FID_Genesis8Female" (not really hidden) to 100% and the hair should slip into place.

    Thank you !

I saved it as a wearable preset for future use and it seems to work nicely.

Well, I'd like to share another quicker way to avoid modifying SceneID and further saving any preset.

    1. After saving modifier asset, simply go to the folder where DSF file of FID_Genesis8Female property locates, just from Parameter Settings > File Path. (ss1)
    2. Copy / Paste FID_Genesis8Female.dsf, change the name of the copied file to: FID_Genesis8_1Female.dsf.
    3. Open FID_Genesis8_1Female.dsf with NotePad++, replace FID_Genesis8Female with FID_Genesis8_1Female. Ctrl + S. (ss2)

Done ~ Now load the hair to G8.1F.

I could write a supplement script to auto-generate this G8.1F FID property but the above way won't take much time. You can get it done in 30 secs. cheeky

Thank you, I did that and now, the hair are fitting properly automatically.

Regarding the script, if I need something, I'll likely write a Shell script and it should work.

I take it you'd have to do it for the male version of items as well? Dupe the file and edit.

No, it's not needed 'cause the product is meant to use on G8M ~~
