G8F: move hip/pelvis bones while holding the chest bones?

Hey guys,

I want my G8F to maintain her upper body position but move the lower body, i.e., the pelvis and legs. Since the hip bone is the origin one, moving either it or the pelvis breaks the whole character's pose. Pinning the upper chest bone doesn't help much. Is it at all possible?

Rotating (not translating) the pelvis should be fine since it's a child of the hip, it should only carry rotations down to its children (the legs, feet bones etc).

You can save a partial pose of just the abdomen and below though, then you can do whatever you want with the lower body and just re-apply the partial pose to get the character back into the pose you wanted. You can also use Memorize but be aware, then you can't restore the character to default pose etc in that current scene.

Well, rotating the pelvis isn't enough.

What I'm thinking of is moving the origin point from the hip to the chest lower temporarily, and then moving it back. Is this possible?

How about enabling Pin Translation and Pin Rotation for Abdomen Lower, and disabling Use Limits for Abdomen Lower's Bend, Twist, and Side-Side?

You probably meant pinning Translation and Rotation for the chest upper? In any case, I tried pinning both the chest and the abdomen (not at the same time) and translating the abdomen lower/pelvis with both the regular translation and ActivePose tools, and rotating it. Depending on the specific way, either the upper part is rotated (as usual) or the pelvis moves more or less as intended, but the upper parts of the body move/rotate as well.

No, as I mentioned earlier, my suggestion is to pin the "Abdomen Lower," which serves as the root of the upper body, and simultaneously disable the rotation limits (Bend, Twist, Side-Side) for "Abdomen Lower."

Have you tried disabling the rotation limits?

Simply pinning "Abdomen Lower" without removing the rotation limits causes the bones of the upper body (below Abdomen Lower) to follow the rotation of the Hip.

I have attached an example image showing "Abdomen Lower" pinned with the "Use Limits" for Bend, Twist, and Side-Side disabled.

You can confirm that the upper body's pose remains intact even when the lower body is moved.

Ah, you're absolutely right! And yes, this is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks a lot for the tip!
