Rayn for G3F

I hate being the guy that posts whiny conversations about something appearing to work wrong, but I have to ask: Has anyone tried putting any of G3F's other clothing on Rayn? For me, some of it works okay, and other bits not so much.

I mixed Rayn in about half and half with an adult character to get a bot more of a teen look without hitting the body dials, and on a number of recently-released outfits (The one-piece bathing suit, PJs, and a few more), the clothing sprouts a new morph down the midline between her breasts, that depending on the outfit either looks like she has a center breast or a ridge down the front of her body from neckline to pubis. Is that something Rayn is supposed to do so her normal clothes fit her flat-chested normal form, or is it intentional?

I know the character I mixed her with doesn't have that issue, nor do any of the outfits in question fiftted to either adults or Skyler. To be fair, Skyler did get some crumpling in those areas with the PJs, but this came as something of a surprise.

For the record, I mixed Rayn in with the character in question in order to do a mother-daughter thing with the original character, same as I'm planning to do with Skyler. Because it could be fun.

  • Oh, and lest anyone think I'm being pedantic and ridiculous, I picked Rayn up for the same reason I did Skyler-- to use as G3F DNA (and family pics) for other characters. I think she's adorable. For that matter, she's probably going to join Keiko and Skyler for school here soon, along with a few random K4s with Callie as her teacher.

All listening to General Hansen and Admiral Elliot recount the tales of Earth and how they got to Mezuril. Fun sci-fi story with all the trimmings.

Because a classroom full of kids will eat that up.

I haven't tried her yet, but it was good to see a render of her because the promos were- well, looked almost like African American legs on a Caucasian person. Is there a big difference between Skyler and Rayn? They look really similar.

She's wearing stockings in the promos, they come with her clothes.

  • Novica, please check your review thread, I explained that the clothing pack lists leggings; that is what you see.

Skyler looks cute; Ryan, however, looks like trouble.

I can't help but feel after I'd said no to her, I'd need to check where my credit card was - if, of course, I was actually capable of saying no!

The poses shown in the promos are hilarious, but in a more acurate way.

She's a slightly stialised character like skyler. She also looks a little too similar

I'ts a shame that the head and body morph are not seperated. It would make the product more versatile; if the price wasn't so low I wouldn't be considering becuase of the negatives from my own pov I've raised.

I have a question though for anyone who has purchased; are the textures noticeably different?

Also, don't use my renders as a benchmark for what Rayn looks like. Those are her textures, but I mixed her shape with that of my Joy character (The whole mother/daughter thing I was working on). Depending on some edits, I may pitch a few Rayn/Skyler/InsertNameOf3DUBoysHere characters out there and see what people like.

They are fairly similiar, in the way of second or third cousins. Skyler comes off a bit older and has shed some of the baby fat in her face, whereas Rayn still has most of hers. Rayn's a bit shorter, but oddly seems to be longer in the fingers than her older counterpart. Rayn also does "petulant" better than Skyler for some reason.

In an artistic sense, they're going to be similiar, since the same artist made them. There are enough differences that I'm not having any issues working out who is who, however. I'm running a render of her having a little chat with her mother about the school uniform. Apparently, she's not overly fond of it.

It's okay, though... Joy wasn't much for those uniforms  twenty years ago either. wink

I can tell the difference, but then I'm strange like that. Rayn's a bit darker than Skyler, and has tanlines. Why the tanlines? I have no idea. I'm guessing she spends more time in the sun than the (apparently) more bookish Skyler.

Here's that render I told you about... I'll set up a straight comparison render of Skyler and Rayn next.

No kidding, from the promos I can see Skyler's Mom saying to her "stay away from that Rayn girl, she's trouble and a bad influence" LOL

    Like I said, trouble... :)

    Thanks for the reply.

Yup more trouble; I remember dad saying to me, are you listening to what I'm saying; mum said, 'he always listens...' LOL. I get that vibe in your image.

No kidding, from the promos I can see Skyler's Mom saying to her "stay away from that Rayn girl, she's trouble and a bad influence" LOL

Those type of friends can be the best sort to have - they can be very loyal. Very stressful for parents though.

Interesting picture in the first post. It looks like she has her spine on the front of her body.

More interesting is that most of the clothing that has that issue to a great degree all have fits for Josie 7, and as a result are things Rayn and Skyler might actually wear.

Okay, two more renders before I pack it in, of which I have one here. This one is of the girls without any kind of reshaping. The next one will be the first of the series of mother-daughter images.

Actually, this one includes to two mothers along with the girls-- From left to right, Alexis, Skyler, Rayn, and Joy.

Don't mind the gap under their feet... For some reason, Studio's floor grid isn't behaving today.

  • Some photoshop brush tool should be used on this promo image to get the push-through on Rayn's shirt. Should be a quick fix.

I thought exactly the same thing.  Rayn looks very much the same as Skyler, with a more pointy chin and "ashen" colored skin tone.  I won't be buying this. at all.

I'm not impressed with how similar the textures are; it's putting me off buying. But the hair is not available any other way. The clothes would be a great addition, considering the derth of kid stuff.

    Edit:

I'm going to think about it, until tomorrow for the character and hair. And the clothes seeing as the saving on the bundle is worth having if I go that way.

I'm thinking that a different skin, other than what was done, or more especially a seperate body and head morph would have made it more versitile. It feels like all I'm buying is the hair and a tanned overlay which is doable, on the existing Skyler, with products I already own.

i don't think they are supposed to postwork images to hide that stuff. it would be like lying right?

  • I think promo art  is post worked quite often.

I got Skyler during the recent sales, as a more youthful G3F skin is useful as well as the shape, which, as others have said, is good for making adult figures look a bit younger. I also feel that Ryan looks a bit too similar to Skyler, and in addition I do not like tan lines backed into the skin. If you want tan lines they are easy to add using texture overlays, LIE editor etc, but they are very difficult to remove if unwanted.

Personally, I think that they are distinct enough that I plan to get both Skyler and Ryan. I do agree on the tan lines though, I would have prefered the texture without them. I hope that 3D Universe will make a character that is about 5-7 years old that could work as a younger sister. Also, when G3M is finally released, I hope that there are plans for male characters to go with Ryan and Skyler.

Yes, Skyler has grown on me in recent weeks.  Especially since she recently received all manner of new poses and expressions, and now this new friend; she's a real magnet-for-trouble!

BTW, I like the rubberface poses (forget the precise name).  I haven't picked up either one yet but that's only because I don't yet have a story to tell with either/both of them.

At least they're not burried in eyeliner.

If the product is the clothes (in this case it is) then we are not allowed to do any post-work beyond minor levels/color correction on the clothes.  We can post-work things not sold in the product all we want.

One more render, this time the actual mother-daughter pairings (Skyler/Rayn dialed to 50%, and the other half the Mom character at their sides), Same textures and a clothing check, this time the MAB for G3F. Note the lack of presence of the effect in the OP.

Now I mentioned that they looked sort of like cousins, and it would seem that I managed to portray them so-- according to the magioc relationship chart I built for the fiction I associated to the two adult characters, this is in fact true. Lady on the left's twin brother is husband to the lady on the far right.

Now to get the texture kits out and make the girls some new skins.

  • Cute! I like that dark Spartan!

  • Thanks!

If I carry these characters forward, they'll be dependent on the two characters that make them up obviously, with new skins and a few custom morphs to add a little individuality. Ari will take the largest changes, as her father is as Japanese as auntie Rumiko...

  • I like it. and I'm not sure I like the base figure that much, but I do like what you did with it. =-)

  • Wait till you see what I have in mind for G3M...

  • Wait till you see what I have in mind for G3M...

Ooh, I cannot wait. =-)  I am quite impatient to see G3M

  • I mixed Rayn in about half and half with an adult character to get a bot more of a teen look without hitting the body dials, and on a number of recently-released outfits (The one-piece bathing suit, PJs, and a few more), the clothing sprouts a new morph down the midline between her breasts, that depending on the outfit either looks like she has a center breast or a ridge down the front of her body from neckline to pubis. Is that something Rayn is supposed to do so her normal clothes fit her flat-chested normal form, or is it intentional?

A ridge between the breasts is very common on flat-chested characters, and is an unavoidable consequence of auto-generated morphs on clothing that isn't unrealistically skintight. I've never seen a full-length ridge like that, though.
