First: https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s

Am i understanding this right, that this converts v4 skins/textures/uv's to G2F, essentially allowing you to use your V4 characters on the G2F base? And if so, doesn't this do the same thing, but I'm assuming not en mass as this: http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female  ? Because I already own the latter. If the only difference is doing multiples at one time it wouldn't be worth it to me, as doing one at a time is no problem for me. I guess I don't understand this product very well.

2nd: https://www.daz3d.com/skin-builder-for-genesis-and-genesis2-female-s

This one confuses me. The only part I don't understand is the skin builder part, all other functions I understand. First, it says take skins from "different races." Can you take say two caucasian and combine, or two african american and combine? What about if I have a character and her skin is darker but want to make her skin lighter from a different character, is this possible? Thorough explanations in laymans terms would be greatly appreciated on both products. They've been on sale several times during the Festival sale and I've passed them over each time because of my confusion with them.

  • Hi there Horusra I have the V4 skins Batch converter, This takes the old v4 skins and converts them to a DUF file to be used on your gf2 figures (just the skins not the shapes) It is a script and you have to take some time a build up a little library of new converted skins. It is a fantastic product giving you lots posibilities!! The Victoria 4 for Gen2 female can only convert  files already in DUF format to gf2 -with this one you have to go into your daz material files each time you want to use a v4 skin and then pick the material out and apply it, I loved this product but find I use the  V$ skin batch converter all the time now as once you make up youy library it is very quick. hope this helps!! Anything else just ask!!

The convertor does not convert textures, it convert old file format material presets to .duf format material presets.  Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 female does not convert anything it just adds Victoria 4 UV mapping and a V4 Auto-Fit clone to Genesis 2 Female.  Skin Builder uses Victoria 5 UV mapping which G2F comes with but you would need to purchase Victoria 5 for Genesis to use it on Genesis.

I thought maybe the first program and/or the second, made it possible to use your vic 4 characters (skins, etc) on the genesis 2 base (mesh). Is there anything that does that?

I have Victoria 5, but I don't understand what it is exactly that skin builder doing. I understand most of the program, e.g., the eyelash, gens, nails. The tan line thing alludes me as does the blending of multiple character skins.

@HorusRa - Skin Builder Pro doesn't actually blend different character skins that you already own. It provides three new skin textures (one light, one medium and one dark) and allows you to blend them together and adjust them with your own choice (using a colour-picker) of tint (so you can darken or colourise the diffuse), velvet, specular and subsurface colours.

You can then optionally (each in it's own script) add in makeup, tanlines etc  - it's this part that you can apply to any character skin you already own that has V5 UV Maps. (Some of these modifications work with other UV Maps, but I'm not sure which)

Have you read the PDF document which you can access via the ReadMe at http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/18862/start ? (It's near the bottom of the page)

ETA: correction to how many scripts

MelanieL: Thanks for that info. No, I didn't know that pdf was there. Thanks. Now I have a better understanding of how the script works. Thanks again.

I did a couple of trial renders - no fancy lighting, just Perspective view with standard headlight in 3Delight - to show what the three skins look like (tone-wise).

Left to Right = Light / Medium / Dark / 50:50 Medium and Dark.

ETA: Obviously decent lighting would look a lot better, as would face morphs, as would sensible coloured eyes - this was just what the model (Gia 6) loaded with.

Thanks for the examples. I had however decided it's not for me and won't do what I thought it would. sad
