My new set: Aqua Subterranea is a modular underground waterway with 9 vaulted sections that can connect together in any order for limitless possibilities. The set also comes with 16 individual props for you to further customize your scenes as well as a bonus, pre-made scene with lights and 6 camera presets for Poser and Daz Studio (3Delight and Iray).
It's also my PA Festival Day!

I am trying to resist this, may hold out until tomorrow, it is certainly cheap enough for such a nice looking model.
Reminds me of a game I used to play but cannot now as I forgot it's name. Looks good. Now where are the giant rats.
Awesome set, Merlin. Excellent, quality work - but I expect nothing less from you. I'm going to have to pick this up. It begs to be played with. :)
In my runtime already. Great set.
I noticed that your Labyrinth Construction Set was used in the promos. Does this mean it can be used seamlessly with this new set? It appears so from the promos; I really couldn't tell what was from the Construction Set, but the imagrs sure looked good.
Looking through the images, the only thing I can see from the Labyrinth construction set is the torch the character is carrying. Both are great sets and in my runtime!
Yep, the only item used from the labyrinth was the flaming torch, as KA1 spotted. These corridors haven't been designed to tile with the labyrinth set, although now you've mentioned it I wish I'd done that now!
Thanks guys!
Wouldn't that have meant a labyrinth iRay overhaul?? Not that I'd complain at an iRay overhaul for the labyrinth kit, in fact I'd pay for an iRay expansion for it!!
I keep looking at it and saying "don't I already have this"?
That's a very good point, also, good to know
Not unless you picked it up first thing today
This set opens up all sorts of possibilities with amazonian fantasy warrioresses fighting monsters. I definitely feel inspired. This has gone right to the top of this week's shopping list.
Cheers,
Alex.
I had to grab this as soon as i saw it. t will work perfectly for the sewer dungeon crawl scenese from our D&D game. On a side note It's rather scary that there are only 5 items from Merlin that I don't own o_0 I think I may like his work :P~
I'm still buying it. You can never have too many labyrinthine, underground sets to dump your poor hapless figures into.
Looks good. Is the water a single plane that can be moved up and down, or what?
Yes the water is a single plane that can be moved up or down or removed entirely.
Bought this afternoon. Now all I have to do is to find the time to do it justice!
Cheers,
Alex.
No flames on the candles?
I stuck my own on (elongated spheres) so not a problem unless I missed where they are, this was in Carrara though not looked in Poser or DS
i know you can use lights but I use mesh with emitter textures for Octane
Since the candle flame was part of the candle uvmap, I included mesh lights in the premade scene placed over the candles to simulate the flame in the lanterns.
Haven't tried the 3Delight D|S scene yet, but the Iray scene has little spheres inside the lanterns with Emissive set on. Maybe there's something similar in the Carrara files? It's a pretty dark scene, though, so I haven't had time to let a render run all the way yet.
And I just realised how much of the scene isn't actually in the camera view. I'll try again at the weekend with the out-of-view bits deleted, that should render faster.
I am sorry did not check the DAZ iray scene as Poser ones load better in Carrara as a rule, I may try the duf one later
am sort of used to a flame plane on most things as was the common practice in the past
I'll definitely be doing all light sources as a separate mesh from now on, makes emmisive surfaces easier to set up in iray.
I finally got a look at the duf scene after rendering my ani and found you did the same as me on the Poser one, used little spheres!
The Poser one is still more suitable for Carrara and Octane though, or even the 3Delight one, Iray materials do not come over as a rule.
my video with added fires
Just a quick render. I added this week's freebie and a red light for a little more 'atmosphere'. It is getting pretty close to Hallowe'en, after all.
Very nice riftwitch- nice Fall colors. Merlin, congrats on another fine product!
Nice video, I like the way you've got the light flickering on the stone work, great stuff!
I like the red lighting, very ominous and atmospheric!
So this doesn't natively have any lights in Iray, correct? Only what we add ourselves?
Yes, there are Iray lights — each of the lanterns has a sphere in it with the surface set with the Emissive parameter. It's all very dark, though, so a quality render might take some time. One solution would be to select all the spheres, turn up the Luminance dial, then adjust the Tone Mapping values until you get the precise level of spooky dimness you want.
