Reinstalling Daz on new PC, do I need to reinstall all my old assets?
in The Commons
Hi, I have reinstalled Daz on a new pc after not using it since covid. I have a couple of characters I built in duf files on an external drive. When I load a duf file, Daz cant find any of my assets; morphs and clothes and a custom logo surface for the Tshirt, etc. so the craracter looks like the micheline man..
Question 1, how do I get a list of all the assets that were used in the duff? I know I downloaded a bunch of free assets from sharegc back a few years ago.
Question 2, do I need to reinstall all of those assets? Or can I point Daz to load assets from my library on external hard drive ? If so how do I do that?
Thanks!

If you still have your content library on an external drive then you can add it as an additional content folder in DS:
One important point: On Windows, DS has a cache of support files for all your installed Daz programs at C=>Users=>(your user profile name on your computer)=>appdata=>Roaming-=>Daz3D . You may need/want to copy those directories to appdata=>Romaing=>Daz3D on your new computer. Otherwise, you'll need to check for plugins and scripts that aren't working because they rely on data from those directories. You can reinstall those plugins and scripts. That should get them working again.
The app itself and plugins should indeed be reinstalled on the new computer, otherwise you might miss some parts.
For scripts it depends, some would work with only the content files and maybe some "appdata" files, some may need to be reinstalled.
