Having a tough time transferring library

craanberycraanbery Posts: 20

Hey, everyone. I'm having a real tough time transferring over my smart content to a new computer/Daz library.

What I did;

1) Export user data from old computer/library

2) put new library on new computer

3) import user data/metadata on new computer/new library

The results is that I get my custom categories all out of whack and a bunch of newly categories as you see in the firt picture attached. All official smart content from the Daz store is transferred over fine, but all of the third party content that I created through Content Package Assistant are the ones that aren't being transferred correctly. I can see the thumbnails, but twith no actual content inside. (First picture is old library and how it's supposed to be)

    When you export your UserData this creates a file named similar to UserData.dsx in the /Runtime/Support folder of your primary Daz Formats library (the first one in the list). If your custom categories where configured there then these should have been saved to the file and imported into your new install after you mounted all libraries and re-imported the metadata. This will include everything listed under the "Local User" product which is the container for custom changes.

    However, I do not know how Content Package Assistant works with all of that as I have not used it unfortunately. However, just having a quick look at the Product - when you used it did you definitely check the box named "Generate Supplemental.dsx"? That seems like the option that would create the /Runtime/Support dsx file that the "Reimport Metadata" function requires to read back in.

    I assume you have double-checked the obvious that you have correctly re-added all the Daz Format Libraries that you had before? And that you do not have libraries nested inside other libraries?

    I did check and I don't have any nested libraries and Content Package does generate the supplemental metadata, so I do see them, just not where they're supposed to be. One thing that I do see is that I have multiple content cluster folders for the CMS. I have one in App Data, program files where Daz is installed and I also have another in the library itself. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that. Checking my original library shows that I only have two content cluster folders in the app data and where the Daz is installed. For some reason it keeps creating a third file where the library is.

    Oh, that doesn't sound too ideal. You can only use one CMS at a time and it probably shouldn't be inside a library since it's completely separate. Both DIM and Daz Studio have config for the CMS so make sure that both of those have the same values else DIM may be adding metadata that Daz Studio cannot see and vice-versa - check again if you have both the standard and beta versions as those have their own config.

    Where are the Content Package Assist metadata files if not in the /Runtime/Support folder? Did you see them listed when you ran re-import metadata and it showed the list of products it had found?

    No matter what tools you ever used to install products and/or create custom Categories.... if you want to 100% migrate metadata (fr cms database) from your old PC to the new one, suggest you not go for the way of exporting user data + re-importing metadata.

    Instead, just simply migrate cms cluster folder to you new PC:

    1) Fully close DS and DIM in your old PC, go to %appdata%\DAZ 3D\ in File Browser, copy cms folder to an SSD.
    2) Fully close DS and DIM in your new PC, plug SSD. copy cms folder to %appdata%\DAZ 3D\. Overwrite.

    Thanks for the help. Migrating my CMS cluster data is what helped!
