I totally understand your frustration. As a content creator just getting my feet wet it's even more frustrating learning all the other tools that most folks just overlook! Not a hell of allot of info out there either on that end. Agan, if it wasn't for a few folks out there I'd have given up a long time ago!
This is only because much of the community wants to remain that way.
That said documentation has always been an issue with Daz, and will be even whenever Version 5 comes out. But even with documentation, far too many people wouldn't read it :( So it justifies not investing in it. (that and what Wolfie said)
I think there are enough people around here, that would like to learn how it all works...
What i don't understand is that at contentparadise, there are PA's launching tutorials like i posted earlier, with info how zbrush works with poser and how content or figures can be created. Such kind of tutorials is what daz need at it's shop to for dazstudio. Most PA's use zbrush these days, hex or even carrara are not used anymore as it's faster done with ZB.
even if i would know how to create content, i still would buy content only if i like it, why because i don't have time to create all objects/figures i like. The difference is if more of us do this, more content would be available for all.
Teach people the right soft/programs and not the wrong old/one's.
Sure glad I have Zbrush then....lol
Some people don't want to sell content at all, they just want to make it for thier own uses. I know those people like me are just few and far between but it would be nice to have options to do what some PA's do just because no matter what I'm not going to buy any other persons vision anyways (lol half the time anyways). After learning so much it just gets frustrating. I like the tools I have don't get me wrong I switched to mainly Daz Sudio after "Buying" version 4. But that being said I also have every other software I have up to date also. For people like me its just about learning. The tools I am not allowed to have I compensate for in other ways just so I can keep a smile on. I hunger for learning more and funny thing is its always just been a hobby and for fun.
Sure glad I have Zbrush then....lol
Me too!
My gut feel is that the SDK change will be a bit of a problem; I've got the feeling that some of the UI may be in version 3 QT and going to version 5 will loose the support for the version 3 code. No idea how much fun that will be to fix. This is just me - but I'd take advantage of the move to QT 5 and a partial UI rewrite to drop 32-bit support. I'm willing to bet that these changes are enough to push Studio 5.0 out two or more years.
My two cents worth; take with LARGE grain of salt.
If tutorials sold well enough I think we would have more daz specific ones. A few PA have made some, and not many. They still make other products.
They only have so much time. If selling content is how they make a living I could see why they wouldn't have time to also take on another job crafting tutorials.
Not that impressed with the tutorials I bought here; take a look at https://cgcookie.com/ (i used for blender) for an idea of how to create both free and paid for turorials.
Yes, please do...CGCookie tuts are a 'gold standard'.
If your primary job is selling training it will be a higher quality than when it is not. Not sure there is a lot of interest externally to make Daz specific tutorials.
lots of times it seems to me the Daz tutorials are just created by people who have some knowledge to share, who aren't necessarily instructors. The help how they can, fill some obvious holes and sometimes profit
Thrust me, such kind of tutorials between dazstudio and zbrush are high wanted by a lot of people...
guess actually more then same bikini, boots,... content over and over again. (V4 to G1, G2, G3 and soon G4)
these kind of tutorials are really missing subject/chapter at the daz shop. If it's possible for poser at other store's, why not have a few good one's for dazstudio and how it al works with dazstudio. People will buy well explained tutorials for sure, good tutorials and not another poor free youtube or freaky search to dead on a forum for poor info.
.
You misunderstand my comment and also missed my edit.
You need someone to make them. If people are busy making content and have tons of projects in queue, they don't have time to make tutorials. Someone else would need to. Outside of this niche community not sure other people are aware, or care to fill the void.
An old saying states: "those that can do, those that can't teach." This is basically crap, but...
Those that can, often make lousy teachers, whereas good teachers may not know the subject matter. A conundrum.
The quality of what I bought, resulted in me not buying any more. I would pay for good turorials, much more than for (as mjc1016 said) for yet another damn bikini, even though I own a few and use them on occasions when the they are appropriate to the scene.
sorry, read it to fast, ennglish is not my main language...
And are the Poser tutorials not useful for making the clothing or whatever (which is the ZBrush part)? There are several rigging tutorials, text and video, paid for and free, once you have the model (indeed there are plenty of free and paid, video and text, tutoirals on making clothing in a range of applications). Restricting the applications used, and the format of delivery, is too restrictive unless you are very lucky.
I do find it highly unlikely that there are anywhere near as many people who would buy a tutorial - or at least buy and make use of - as there people who will buy content - it's not the way the numbers go in any other field.
I learned Studio and Zbrush just by watching youtube vids, and as a result I am now a PA:) I never read one bit of documentation. The information is out there, you just need to find it. Eg in youtube all I typed was Daz Zbrush and I was flooded by all I needed to know to get started. There is also this channel which is essential to content creation in Studio. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtqhpxQyGa7fm0LPoDz4s4A/videos Now I know not everybody learns this way, but it got me started.
I wish more people wrote out tutorials. Video tutorials and blogs just... ugh. I hate them so much.
But more and more, that's all there is.
For poser, yes sure.
But not for dazstudio, daz remains one big mystery and then we didn't spoke about the Hidden HD features.
Daz really need a few full complete tutorial projects in the shop, just like the vids that are done for poser. and not poor youtube's
The modelling is the same; learn to model, learn to rig, then you will be able to model and rig your own content. The HD feature isn't hidden - it simply isn't available to those of us who aren't PAs making content for the store.
The only thing unique to daz clothing wise is rigging. And there are documents and tutorials talking about that. Using those plus asking questions on the forums should tide the inquiring mind over. I figured out how to do basic rigging, adjust weight maps, add bones and geografts without buying any tutorials. Sure it took some time and hunting an pecking but I got what i need.
Most part of the modelling yes, but not the part where it's up into dazstudio and that's the part where the tutorial is hard needed.
So yes, if would be nice if daz have (zbrush+dazstudio) tutorials in it's shop.
the wiki docs on how to use the auto rigging are adequate to get started. As you bring clothes over and have more questions there are more docs that help and threads in the forums to cover them. (rigidity, geografts, adding bones, weightmapping etc)
Point is, if someone really wants to find out how to do it, they can. Sure better documentation and tutorials would be nice. I would not use the lack of perfect documentation as an excuse not to do learn how to do things.
Was prepared to write a lengthy diatribe about the different versions of various programs I've purchased or freely downloaded over the years. Finally decided I was putting myself to sleep just typing out my thoughts. DS 4.8 currently is my program of choice as it's got the best "all around" way for me to produce the artwork I want and the price can't be beat! I don't mind spending my cash on content as the "ahem..better" programs out there cost so much just to buy. It's like you're given a free car and just have to buy the gas and maintain it. While I would like to see some big things in future versions of DS like soft-body physics, dynamic hair and some of the things mentioned in this thread already, DS has for me continued to make upgrading this "free" program worthwhile.
P.S. anxiously awaiting version 4.9.a.1.0.11.2 beta trial etc etc etc.....call it what you will I'll use it!
nothing wrong with the wiki, but what we need is some set of video tutorials for daz shop that explain the things better then in the wiki in a visual way.
that 's best done with a full project.
It's up to you. But it's not "we". Some of us have chosen to use what we have. If it is important enough, use what is available.
Yeah it is disappointing that some of the articles are WIP that never got touched again. However I wouldn't expect them to do much. Daz is a small teeny tiny group. They have two people listed for documentation in the software credits. 4 people in customer service...
So you are correct with using the wiki as a base and then hitting up the forum. People will help when they can.
The real secret, the one the PA's know, is PAFO and research. The information they get, that others may not, is due to research time on the internet and reading these boards and not extra documentation. They get things the same time everyone else does. The only real exception I can think of to that is a new figure because they get it in time to produce for it and the learning curve is included in that production time. We got Iray the same day everyone else did. What some of us did differently is spend every free minute for the next few weeks reading the boards and doing research on core concepts related to PBR and physics. The boards will always be the best resource for anything related to studio because it is from multiple perspectives and has takes on a variety of concepts from different angles through so many different eyes. Your never going to get the sort of dynamic information from documentation you will from the boards. The only "secret" PAs have isn't documentation or a club it is being willing to put in extra hours researching things that may or may not work out or be valuable in the long run. Then trial and error till it works or doesn't.
OK you got me there @Khory, what is PAFO? I haz no clue!
Since HEX and probably Bryce too, are dead (I'll keep saying that until somebody proves me wrong with a REAL beta or a REAL upgrade that I can install), I would like to see DAZ Studio to offer a bridge to/from VUE, Blender, Sculpt-whatever, and other major products. Blender is surging in usage. People are making stills and significant movies with it. Watch Sintel. Watch the first chapter of the new one, "Cosmos Laundromat". You can't tell me that Blender isn't mainstream. People are starting training and artistic businesses with it, and by the hundreds. There are Blender conferences, for crying out loud!
I am starting to think of DAZ Studio as something of a curator of the DAZ "Island of Content". It's a big island, sure. But as it stands right now, it's hard for the new crop of modeller/artists, who are taking to Blender and other programs like crazy, to get from the Blender mainland to the DS island.
We need a bridge! This would allow us to port standard stuff over and back, while retaining critical metadata, like armatures, parent/child relationships, movement-tracking, and limits definitions, and other things that have to be re-done when you get your model into DS.
Blender has come of age and this cannot be denied, not even by its detractors. It has more features than Hexagon and is quickly eclipsing Bryce too. Blender is 64 bit and it has been stable enough now for years. It's time for a bridge.
I say it's time to build the bridge and call it DAZ Studio 5: Bridge to the Future!
