4090 Vram Temps and noisy GPU

Hello guys, today I bought a second-hand 4090 from a legit retailer that guarantees they thoroughly check all their used products. The graphics card arrived today, and everything looked fine at first.

The problem started when I hit 'render.' It does render properly and at the speed you’d expect from a 4090 — but oh god, the noise! It sounds like an airplane taking off compared to my previous card. That instantly raised some red flags, so I decided to investigate.

After checking the temperature logs, I think the culprit is the VRAM temperature, which is unusually high.

So I want to ask everyone here: what VRAM temperatures do you see on your 4090s while rendering?

Here's a screenshot from GPU-Z showing my temps and fan speed while rendering.

Does this look okay to you, or is my VRAM temp way off the charts?

My VRAM temp sits around 102-106ºC

You should replace the pads on the vram. If you dont think you can take to a shop. The memory should not go over 89 deg Cel. Have the shop replace the paste as well.

A couple of runs of a benchmark isn't the same as rendering so they probably thought it was fine.

Someone has had that apart and either put the wrong pads on, reused the old squashed pads or missed a pad or pads.

Send it back, they're too expensive to deal with the fallout from someone else's stupidity.

Your other temps are normal, the vram temp is going to depend on cooler design but I'd expect somewhere in the 60s.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback—I really, really, really appreciate it. I also talked with the store, and they said they’ll look into it and hopefully fix the issue! smiley
