A request for anyone with some extra time - is it possible to see Willow 9 mixed with a couple of other characters - maybe some creatures? It's not a big deal if people don't have the time or the figures/characters to do so. :) Was just curious how she might "toon-ify" creatures or less human characters.
It would be interesting to see somebody turn her into "Dr. T'Ana" (the grumpy foul mouthed Caitian from "Lower Decks") by blending Willow with one or another of the G9 "cat people" morph sets.
Willow 9 with Base Anime Feminine dialed out, Base Anime Masculine dialed in and Wolverine dialed in. I used Willow eyes, but Wolverine mouth, teeth, eyelashes. I attempted to use the Wolverine dForce SBH fur by tessellating it, but I was only partially successful. further messing with it made it worse, so now I don't even know the settings I used for this FilaToon render. I used the V3D converter.
Willow 9 blended with Gren the Troll 9 HD. Gren the Troll's skin, toonified using Easy FilaToon.
Willow 9 100%
Base Anime Body Feminine 38%
Base Anime Body Masculine 30%
Gren the Troll Head 80%
Gren the Troll Body 100%
These mixes are looking really nice!
barbult That wolverine looks frightened of what you've done to him. Lol
CES3D Fantastic mix and render!
Here's a few vartiations, using Tara's Succubus Form, Lycan's form and Astaroth's form. The Easy Filatoon worked well with these, too!
Question: So, what am I doing wrong here?
Did a 'test render' to see how Willow 9 would look, and for some reason the eyes seem to render 'invisible' instead of white.
I don't use G9 much, or any 'toon' textures/morphs, so is there some setting for the render I have overlooked?
You are using Iray rendering.
If you intend to use Iray rendering, try switching "Render Settings Pane > Editor Tab > Optimization > Instancing Optimization" to either "Memory" or "Speed."
If you don't want to use Iray rendering, set the Viewport drawing style to Filament and then set "Render Settings Pane > Engine" to "Viewport" before rendering.
Ah, thanks for the reply, I'll try this.
I noticed in the promos that sometimes the lips are a solid colour with no outlines, sometimes a solid colour with a black line top and/or bottom, and other times the lips are "soft" or "fuzzy", almost a gradient and not a hard, solid colour, without outlines.
Do the lips render differently under Filatoon dpending on angle or distance from the camera, or is it a matter of how the shaders are applied or some other factor?
The upper-left is the "soft" one I referred to (not sure how better to describe it), The top-right is a nice, two-tone pair of lips that I'd consider "solid" top and bottom, just different shades. The bottom-left has some darker edges to the outside of the lips (not black, though I'm sure I've seen black somewhere) and the bottom-right is solid colour.
The only one I'm not keen on is the first, the top-left. My favourite is the bottom-left, but the two on the right are both fine. My question was for that upper-right one, what causes that effect and is it avoidable?
wsterdan Willow 9 comes with 2 lip options - the two in the first screenshot below. The top left one in your image, where the lips blend into the skin, is one of the lip options you can choose in the Daz Originals' anime materials set (shown in the content panel in the second screenshot), maybe also in some other toon make up sets. I'm not getting the outside lip outline from the bottom left image, but you can just draw that into the texture if you prefer to have a consistent outline to the lips. The inside lip outline shows up whenever the mouth is open (see second screenshot), and is part of Willow's toon outline. It can be given any color you like.
Perfect, thanks!
Oh, great, now I'm *more* impatient for DAZ 2025...
As a fan of Lower Decks, this figure made me giggle like an idiot.
You and me both. I bought it, the expansion sets AND 3Diva's Easy Filatoon, even though I'm on a Mac and can't use 'em yet.
It looks like your wait is over, looks like you can test to see if it works on your rig: https://www.daz3d.com/blog/daz-studio-2025-alpha-release
Keep in mind to use Filatoon you will need to install or update the latest version of the Daz Studio default resources package, as well as the Genesis 9 Start Essentials packages (my DIM shows 4 packages for the G9 starter essentials).
Best. Tuesday. Ever.
Thanks for the great news and your notes.
Super pumped, as you can imagine. I've been waiting 4.5 years to use Filament on my Macs and of course, Filatoon. Your Easy Filatoon will also be getting a workout.
Taking a small break from rebuilding my characters to play with Willow. A ton of fun being had.

I need to work out some male characters, I find everything I try isn't quite working, but I'll get there. Genesis 9 overall is still very, very new to me.
HAHAH I'm really happy to hear that! I'm looking forward to seeing the adventures and stories you create with Easy FilaToon! :D
That's very cool! Awesome work, @wsterdan !
Thanks, it was mainly a test on setting up lip sync for Genesis 9, which I've never used before. I'm impressed with the characters and props, I'm amazed at what can be done with 25 or 30 spare minutes... and soooo much fun!
Of course, a minute after I uploaded it I realized she should have said "outsmart" instead of "out-think"...
Just starting an animation in Lower Decks style, hopefully I'll have time to animate it next week.
