Released : "V3D Speech Bubbles Generator Pro" (Commercial)

V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,365

Let me introduce my new project! you can find it here : https://www.daz3d.com/v3d-speech-bubbles-generator-pro

This tool is designed to make adding captions (comment bubbles), speech, or thought bubbles to your renders with the text you want super easy—directly in Daz Studio! Just follow three simple steps:
1️⃣ Create your bubble
2️⃣ Place your bubble
3️⃣ Write your text

(And of course, at the end, render everything together—or use the included “Combiner” script to merge a separate bubble render with your scene render. This last option lets you tweak your text later without re-rendering the whole scene!)

More details:

  • Choose your bubble base – Load a prop from various aspect ratios and shapes: rectangle, oval, or cloud. Each comes with two material zones (base + border) and morphs to adjust the border thickness. Iray and Filatoon shader presets are included, which you can apply to both the bubble and its details (tails, cloud elements).
  • Add a "bubble tail" if needed – Two morphable bubble tails are included: one for speech bubbles and another for thought bubbles (clouds). They’re highly customizable and can be positioned exactly where you want—manually or via included scripts (snap to a selected face or adjust placement with dials).
  •  Create custom cloud bubbles – Instead of using a preset cloud bubble, you can build your own by combining cloud details on a base prop.
  •  Customize your look – Change the bubble’s base and border colors with shader presets, both for Iray and Filatoon. A "white" preset lets you use any color via Base Color (note: this will affect text color unless it's black).
  • Position everything in your scene – To speed up placement, scripts help align the speech bubble on the camera axis (so you never lose track of it) and make it face the camera with horizontal text.
  • Write your text – Use any font installed on your system with options like size, line spacing, italics, bold, underline, stroke (when available), color, opacity, alignment, and fine positioning (left-right, up-down offsets). Preview in a 512x512px window or directly on the bubble. Once happy, save the text for later or apply it instantly.
  •  Render options – Render your scene and bubbles together. OR render them separately (scene first, then bubbles) and combine them using the included "combiner" script. This second method helps ensure sharp text (by disabling Daz Studio’s texture compression) and allows easy text or bubbles changes without re-rendering the entire scene. Scripts are provided to toggle scene or bubbles on/off for seamless two-pass rendering.

Full PDF documentation included But if you don’t like reading manuals, feel free to ask any questions, share feedback, or post your renders here!

Note on text sharpness: Depending on the bubble distance and text size, Daz Studio’s texture compression might blur small text. If that happens, don’t worry—it’s easily fixed in seconds by disabling compression, as explained in the documentation (works for both Iray and Filament).

I add a few images now...

Here are the promo images of the V3D SGP, I did not know which one to remove, so I joined them all. You can in theory click on them to enlarge. This was a very difficult project for me, so I hope you'll love it :)

If I could suggest something, a spiky cloud detail object for shouting type bubbles. I suppose using multiple tails might work, but it'd be more intuitive as a cloud item.

OK I see what you mean. Yes, this is possible with multiple tails. The reason for using tails and details on a bubble is the possiblity to keep a perfect control of the UV space of the bubble.

If the project is successful, or if people request it, I can make an addon with more shapes for the bubbles, for the tails, and (not sure yet) for the the base textures. It was super long and complicated to create the whole project, mixing all posing scripts, the writting script, and the image merging script, (and the visibility ones, but they are easy), knowing that the writting script parameters furthermore had to be adjusted depending on each bubble you use and on its scale (if you want a constant police size for a same bubble distance). So it was a huge and especially complicated work, so I focused on the most commonly used bubbles, finding my reference in a public library book and discussing how I sorted all the possibilities I had with an AI.

Thanks a lot for your link, I'll use it along with my own references if people ask for more shapes and looks, or if I decide to make an addon anyway.

I'm looking forward to the product. I'm using Comic Life at the moment for these things, but having the bubbles in the scene will help with composition, as I find it sometimes difficult to remember to leave empty space in a picture that's going to need speech bubbles. Plus if the bubbles are objects in the scene, that opens the door for some fun fourth-wall breaking tricks like a character interacting with a speech bubble.

Thanks a lot for your support :) Any questions, issue, remark, feature request you would have, you will be welcome here to discuss about it :)

And great idea about the character interacting with the speech bubble, I had not thought about this benefit !

    Price Range?

  • V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,365

I hope I'm allowed to say the price before the release, otherwise the moderator will probably correct my post. It's 24.99 $ before the discount(s).

Great product, as always from you.

I have to save money for my retirement, but I will make an exception for V3D Speech Bubbles.

Wow Artini, that's very nice from you, thanks for your support :)

Your retirement? Seriously? That's crazy since, because of your renders, I imagined you pretty young (like 30)... Well when you are retired you will have plenty of time to experiment even more (and make the forum crash under the number of renders you will show)... XD

Looks like another great product. Not something I can see myself using in the near future but it will go to my wishlist.

The sample pic with the dragon really made me laugh laugh

Thanks Leana :) The most complicated in this image what to imagine what the dragon could say.... And it ended up this way :)

Very interested in this! I've been wanting to move towards making graphic novels. As a personal aesthetic, though, I feel like the flat (for lack of a better descriptor) bubbles clash with the more photo-realistic style of my art. Is there a way in Iray to give them some depth, shading, something? Would Iray shaders work on them?

I understand. You can use the shader you want on the bubbles (4k maps preferentially other sizes, even if implemented, were not tested) before you write the texte. The product is compatible both with iray and filatoon. The text will then be written on the color map of the base color of your shader, creating a new base color map you can apply to your bubble. (Or can be automatically applied if you want to)

How do you produce a single line textbox? Example "Meanwhile..." if you squeeze the box in squeees the text.

I like this add-on, but it needs to adjust caption size after writing text without distortion,

If the text is squeezed in one dimension, you can simply select sur surface on which it is written, and in the surfaces editor, you adjust the horizontal or vertical tile (and offset if necessary) to reach a non squeezd text. Basically the large number of aspect ratios for the bubbles is here so that either you immediately find the ratio you need for your text, or that you find a close aspect ratio to start with and minimize the tile change in the surfaces editor. Edit : of course you have to anticipate a bit the re-tile you will finally make. For instance if you scale the bubble half in the vertical direction, the text in the preview must not be higher than half the height of the writtable area. Said differntly, take a margin to anticipate the re-tile. This rescale and retile should not often happen, but if this is the case, let me know what other aspect ratios I could add to make people life easier...

    Yes squeezing and stretching work.

Hurray!!! Thanks for letting me know, and for sharing here, but I feel better to know that I explained it clearly enough so that you could do it on your side.

Your question was anyway super interesting, it's not necessarily intuitive to think that the text is then on a map you work on "as usually", this is why I'm gonna add this to the first post of the thread so that people having the same issue find the answer easily. I'll just have to ask an AI to re-write it to make as clear as possible (not native english, so sometimes I'm afraid I'm not clear)..

Thanks again for your question, and your feedback ;)

Finally get my first render with the bubble.

Would be great to have a bubble placed automatically inside the choosen camera view.

Also have to manually rotate a bubble on X Rotate to 90 degrees.

Hi Artini!!! Thanks for sharing !!! Nice image and your text is very funny ;)

So for your questions : "Would be great to have a bubble placed automatically inside the choosen camera view." If you change camera view (or whenever you want), you have a script to bring the bubble to the new (active) camera axis. Did you not notice it? Its name is : V3D SBGP 02 Place Object on Camera Axis. You can then translate easily where you want in your view.

Once done to answer your second question : "Also have to manually rotate a bubble on X Rotate to 90 degrees." If you want your bubble to face camera with an horizontal text, you just have to select the bubble and launch : V3D SBGP 03 Orient Face Camera Text Horizontal. This will not move the bubble only rotate it face camera, with an horizontal text. Did you already do this and have any issue??? (because I'm not sure I understand your second question, and because I made this hundreds of times if not thausands, without any orientation issue)...

Let me know if I did not understand your questions correctly, or on the contrary if I answered them... And keep sharing, I want to know the rest of your story XD...

Fantastic product. I really enjoy using it!  Easy to understand the different scripts.  And it works as described in the manual.   The quality of the print is good!   I was using IrfanView to make speech balloons.  But I think V3D Speech Bubbles Generator Pro is easier to use.  And it's good to be able to make speech balloons directly in Daz Studio.  Seems to be a more creative process..

The attached picture is a very basic render.  But just to show a speech balloon.  (Genesis 2 viewport render)

Resizing balloon, or attached morphable tail is easy.  And plenty of morphs to get the tail to look just right.

Also below is a screen print show Visual Menu product.  I use this to put all my V3D comic- scripts on.  Really easy to use

  • This looks so cool that even though I have no immediate application for it, I'm still buying it just to have it on hand.

I have created a not so crowded scene to see better a default placement of the bubble.

I do not know why the default placement of the bubble is horizontal, but the included script fix the rotation.

I am having fun with this generator.

Wonderful, thanks a lot for your very nice feedback and for sharing here :) I'm really happy you find it easy to use, it is always something I keep in mind during the development process! Great Idea to use visual Menus (In general I create a menu and a toolbar, but since I recently had issues with it, I stopped, still waiting for Daz answer on this subject, but visual menus will do the trick!)

I was SURE that YOU were going to play a lot with it :) So I'm glad to read that it's fun for you !!! Two reasons why the bubbles are horizontal when loading is : - it allows the 0 of the bubble to be at the center of the scene. - No initial orientation was really meaningful "for me" since anyway, what you want is to have the bubble facing the camera with an horizontal text, and you just have to double click the script 03 for that. Thanks so much for sharing here!!!! So, now that you master the basics, I hope to see more renders from you, I'm sure you have a lot to say ;)
