Medieval Fantasy Village Landscape ideas

MJ007MJ007 Posts: 1,716

Hello all,

I am creating a fantasy environment, and for simplicity sake (along with getting an amazing pri ce on it), using this set for my primary village.  However, given the concrete "base" of the city and the clear indicators detailing this village is intended to be used in water environment, im having a bit of difficulty setting up the landscape to be used with it that makes sense, so any suggestions would help me make this set usable.  Also with this being one big mesh, i cant hide certain artifacts, so i have to accept "as is".

Any and all ideas are appreciated.

    This one I suppose ?

I don't have it, but did you check with the geometry editor and it's 'Select Connected' function if it's possible to easily select, let's say the ground or a house ?

Do you have a lake environment, something with land and water? If so, you could put the village jutting into the water from the edge of the shore.

It always helps to link the product or at least provide images.

Here are a couple of the promo images I saved when I purchased this set a few years ago. As you can see there is what appears to be a mooring area, and even some boats, so the intention is for the village to be either on the shore of a lake or sea, or on the side of a river. I am not really sure what else you need to make this a water village. Unless you mean you want all the streets to be canals. This would be difficult as the village is built on a slope, where as canal cities tend to be flat.

if you use the geometry editor, there are lots of possibilities

can hide the ground as shown

can lassoo a building invert and hide everything else

delete hidden save that building as a support asset prop

Add some water, a bunch of barrels, some dwarves and you can have a scene right out of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

I originally thought this was intended to be some kinda island.  I didnt consider it as a shore-side property, so I guess I can look into that as well.

Any sample renders of your setups with this set would be highly appreciated and could spark my vision into a setup of my own.

I think the OP is still using DS2 or DS3 and may not have the geometry editor  available.

more work but I think the send to Hexagon bridge should still work, can send it back split into bits too

If you don't get it working you might want to take a look at

All by Faveral and sometimes nicely reduced in sales

I whipped you up a terrain in Carrara, it's not great but add a water plane and some vegetation and it could be passable

this is an iray render but I know 3Delight has some awesome terrain shaders you could tart it up with

(replaced  my baked texture, not much better)

import the obj using the carrara preset and it will load as shown (but grey untextured)

Thank You!  Im having a bit of difficulty with this terrain as i cant seem to line it up as amazingly done in your promo image.  At my Poser scale of 100% for the terrain and the MFV set at the same scale, it doesnt appear to be lining up, but im working with it along with a water plane product, so eventually it'll all come together... so thank you again!

yeah, Poser is very very tiny and Carrara is 240  to DAZ  100

I replaced that texture with a less bad but still not great one blush almost any 3Delight one will look better cheeky

Oh God I hate this prop angry

no wonder it was discontinued, that damned waterwheel is driving me crazy, after finally separating it from the mesh

(was too heavy for Carrara vertex room)

I now cannot get it to spin in Carrara, having an issue I usually have in DAZ studio where it jerks back

changed motion to angles, tried a spin modifier, tried every interpolation type

I can get it to spin fine in Twinmotion

have you looked at some of the medival village construction sets by Faveral, Esha and The Alrchemist. Them in combination with an UltraScenery + UltraSceneryXT (for surroundings ) can work well creating a custom village

I am pretty sure Ultra Scenery will not run in DS version 2.3, as that is what MJ007 is using.

That was way old... Vintage DS even.

while I wonder about the choice, I also know there are Poser users too who still buy older compatible DAZ content, my Windows Vista rig died but even that ran D|S4 though I have no idea if it would run the latest version

my older Windows 7 certainly can just not GPU rendering so am curious what computer MJ007 is using

I have Poser7 on that rig too

I actually have D|S3 installed on the Win7 and have temporarily installed D|S2 on occasions to grab content off it to upwardly convert from 3 to 4, I have done that on my Win10 rig too

Im still on an older HP Win7 machine.  With all the plugins and content Ive purchased for DS2.3, and having an older system (but works great), I just havent found reason enough to go thru upgrading and reinstalling all my content just to be "current".  Trust me, I have enough content to last me a LIFETIME!  Plus I have a great workflow with the companion products I have such as CrossDresser, Morphing Clothes, etc.  There is simply no real "need" for me to move from this platform.
