An old updo with new specs (Selena Hair G3)

I would be interested in a newer version of a hairstyle I've been quite fond of since I started with DAZ

Do folks have any thoughts on similar styles with swept sides, a low bun, G8-G9 levels of detail, and possibly dForce?

    This is an ancient hair for V4, https://www.daz3d.com/wynter-hair by @AprilYSH but I have loved it since first look. The mantle is a work of art. I would love to have it updated to new materials, but the dreadlock hair, wow, what modern hair capability could do for that! And if the mantle could work on other updos. There was a material set by surreality that expanded the style of the mantle also. 

    @shiba_toma I was thinking, as I installed a number of the Genesis 3/7 hairs onto my new computer, that so many would look outstanding in our new hair materials, or at least ones that take inspiration from the older ones, but also are available for Gen 5 to Gen 9. Yeah, more work, but I would pay to have decent hairs for the earlier characters. Not sure about V4/M4 and before and how many people still use them.

    Would either Messy Bun Hair for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s) or FE Messy Bun Updo Hair for Genesis 9 be close enough?

    I have long thought that AprilYSH hairs need an Iray upgrade on their promo images. The hairs are seriously undersold by many of the promos. They are much much better than the promos suggest they are.

    In fact, going further back, I did an image with Jim Burton's Glamorous Vicky and his 'Las Vegas Hair' in 2005 (yes, fractionally under 20 years ago. I suddenly feel old!) in DS 0.7 or 1.x and got the hair to look as below:

    Then at the end of 2020, I tried it on GV3 (left) and G8F with early my early attempts at an Iray shader:

    And more recently with a tweaked shader:

    It's all the same hair, originally designed for V3, so it really is worth persisting even with very old versions.

    Thank you Leana! I don't know how I missed that as when I joined DAZ it was in the middle of G3 and I had no issue with buying G2 products, still do today. Best yet, it is on sale today for $3.14. Appreciate you pointing me to this.

    That is a nice style. I would also be interested in a version with modern poly counts for G8 :) 

    I will have to check out the Genesis 2 version :)

    Messy Bun is closer than I remembered. Not quite as pleasing to my eye but certainly useable.

    Oh... goldtassle's last release was 2020-01-29. That's ominous. :(

    I purchased Princess' Petra's Graceful Bun. It looks fabulous in the demo pictures, but unfortunately, it locks up my (admittedly older) rig instantly. It's just a little too awesome.

    Okay, the messy bun does have a number of morphs that can bring it closer to the target shape. The only real loss (and it is a loss) is that the Selena Hair has a part down the middle on top, while the messy bun is all pulled back.

    I may have to explore applying richer textures to the older mesh...
