Any experience with using Terragen and Daz Studio?

I'm considering Terragen. It's... way more expensive than I'd normally like to spend on stuff, but I used to love using it back when it was free.

Highlights: GREAT procedural terrain and atmosphere, ability to populate terrain, and so on. Most relevantly, unlike Carrara (which has been my terrain generator so far), it can create IBL-quality HDRI. That's... a huge plus.

You can transfer Obj in and out, though a lot of the coolness (like, say, Bryce) is confined to the program itself. So if I wanted Genesis figures and stuff, I expect I'd have to export as Obj and retexture in Terragen. And the cool procedural shader effects in Terragen don't export.

So... do you have Terragen? Any tips and tricks for using it with Daz?

Oh hey, that's handy. I plan on buying it but at least I can kick the tires a bit first.

Aaaaand I just discovered that nearly all the features I'm interested in are only available from Terragen professional. Which is $550.

    sigh. Guess that's not happening.

Render larger than 5000 x 5000, spherical camera, save as EXR.

Does Octane save IBL quality HDRIs?

I got the monthly subscription to Terragen professional.  At $10 per month, it was worth a try.  However, the one flaw is that I am having a hard time exporting as an OBJ file and the texture to go with it, but it doesn't import into Blender nor DAZ Studio.  What would I need to do in order to render the OBJ file with the terrain?

LOL a bit late for me to reply

but yes, Octane render 4 Carrara exports EXR and Spherical renders that are HDRi

however my card 2080Ti is the last one supported for OR4 which I bought outright

not sure if the now subscription model supports anything later or if the Carrara plugin even in development

    on the otherhand

Latiicus Imagery is using Terragen a lot on Facebook I see

    there is also Gaia

...and of course Vue for free!!

    Carrara does fine for me

As WendyLuvsCatz mentioned, Bentley Software offers EON Softwares VUE and Plantfactory sotware for free with perpetual license.  I used VUE eons (pun intended as always) ago, but when they went to supscription and I was faced with paying up to $1600 per year for the package, I opted out.  But Bentley decided this was not part of their core business, and very kindly offered everything free.
