I guess there are several? Beta, Public, and General? What is the main difference in Beta and Public?

Public Build is just the Beta version, AFAIK.

For regular users, all you need to concern yourself with is two release channels - the Public Beta and the General release.
While there are other Alphas and Betas, and DIM does have filters for these, you won't have access to them and they won't be referred to in any marketing material.
The only Beta you have access to is the Public Beta, so for your purposes, there is no difference.
