Cool! I remember doing some V4 in Lux render years ago, fun stuff.
Im sick and tired of waiting for R4.1 playing with iray on my 24G ROG asus laptop with 980M card decent results so far will post later. I work like I do with Reality I apply the diffuse shader to mesh lights and use wattage. How does one remove limits from render times? Even dough I remove limits and extend the time it seems to end under an hour. So far it has been enough but still. Is there a way to make it limitless and like lux?
Heck, just applying Iray Base and adding some pink translucence and sensible glossy values will do most of the work.
..I usually set the following
Convergence: 99%
Samples: 15,000
TIme: 28,800 sec (8 hours) .
Thanks I read in another thread that someone who was able to test the new lux says that a render that took 2.5 days took a few hours. Sounding promising! I am also having the AMD swapped out for nvidia in my tower as well. I am getting what I need in a fraction of the time with iray for the time being..
Edit like this?
Nice stuff everybody!
Direbunny, that is a really great look you've achieved!
This thread, http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/62123/forgive-me-bundle-praise made me recall that there was an even less holy nun costume that DAZ sold.
I render them out without textures and draw over them in paint tool sai or gimp.
one of my earlier tests and also least favorite so i'll show what i'm talking about with a before and after.
Edit: removeing the example images for now, i'll redo this post later when i redo a better example picture :) ....
It's amazing work DireBunny!
Sorry, it was converted with 3DXchange 6.2 Pipeline, which reads .skp files too and has many tools to help with exporting
geometry, textures and animations to different formats, including .obj and .fbx
Below is DS4.8 iray render of a car model converted from Google Sketchup warehouse together with
http://www.daz3d.com/kelly-for-victoria-7
dressed with http://www.daz3d.com/everyday-for-genesis-3-female-s
Rendering Time: 21 minutes 19 seconds
When I have rendered only the car, it took 2 minutes 25 seconds to complete.
what car? OOOH that one.
...so it also requires ICLone as 3DXchange is an expansion. At 600$ for the bundle, a bit out of my budget particularly as I don't work with animation.
Looks great, one day, hopefully, even my Iray render times will be down to that.
CHEERS!
Thanks. It is really vast amounts of cars there (one of the artists has published over 500 different car models).
Not all of them converts well, but at least one have a lot of choices.
Not a render - the photography is my another hobby.
Wish I would know, how to recreate something like that in Daz Studio...
Very nice photo!
If it were Carrara, I would suggest dynamic hair. You can add multiple unique hair objects to your models
The rest would need to be basic vertex models and some good shaders and an HDRI for lighting, which could be done in almost any software.
My wife takes some very nice macro-level photos of plants and flowers she finds interesting. She has a great eye for the lighting and capturing the textures, which is good, because she does no photo-editing at all.
I have a few cars dotted around myself, mostly in .obj format and thankfully they have textures. I might dig some out soon.
CHEERS!
Very nice, I'm sure that Alessandro was trying to get LAMH to play nice with Iray. I keep his thread around in case something comes out.
CHEERS!
Another iray render of vehicle from SketchUp. Environment from:
http://www.daz3d.com/oot-hdr-360-environments-space-for-daz-studio-iray
Rendering Time: 17 minutes
Nice having fun with iray I am rendering a full chapter to my story times anywhere from 3 minutes to 2 hours max average 20 to 40 minutes! Sounds like R4.1 will be out soon too. Will post links once I post on DA
Very nicely done!
CHEERS!
When I first started using Iray I tried the Yosemite domes and did a few renders. I couldn't remember how I had got them to work so went back and did another render.
Skunk Stand Off
Finally got my 24 iray render chapter done. Heh that's one can do with fast rendering times. Faster then the old UE days in some cases here are some. Still looking forward to Reality 4.1

the cut & paste system is *&ed...
Nice, and you can still tell it's you.
CHEERS!
Just as good as lux for my needs. Times 4 to 30 minutes on average. I guess the laptop is built well for this. Apperantly lux is prolly as fast. Someone posted that they tested it with another program blender or something like that, said that a render that took over 2 days now took him a few hours! In either case for the most part, long render times are a thing of the past. I worked like I did in reality. adjusted surfaces, applied the light emmission to mesh lights adjusted temp and wattage did the "film coloring" in photoshop..
Oh o, no spell check the producer's gonna git me cui cui cui..
I was surprised by how quickly Iray rendered a single HD G2 with an HDR, comparable to what it took with 3Delight and my usual lights. I'm sure that once I get a new GPU the times will tumble.
CHEERS!
Im getting an nvidia popped in the beast as well.. 970 or 80. Luxrender has some nice features like adjusting lighting & film iso on the fly but iray has iray draw window which more or less does the same thing. They need to fix the renders re starting everytime you make an adjustment which seems to be taking a long time.
This was rendered in Poser and just won 3rd place in the Monthly Challenge over at RDNA.
...yeah, received the announcement email as well. It will be interesting to compare the two. Still kind of like Lux's ability to render outside of Daz which means I can be rendering one scene while starting on another ,just by re-assigning cores. I can also pause and restart the render any time, any day..
As I don't have a render capable Nvidia card (only 1GB), rendering speed should be about the same between the two.
Also realised another benefit of having multiple GPUs than just render speed, in that the rendering workload will be spread among the number of GPUs installed instead of just one, which technically should increase lifespan of the units. Also the increased speed from additional cores mean a shorter amount of time of operating at peak output for the GPU itself.
Can't wait for the Pascal architecture to filter down. Will be more efficient and run cooler while having a smaller form factor (less "clutter" in the case). Most likely the first consumer versions (dubbed GP100 for now) will have four 4-hi stacks of of HBM2 memory (16 GB) total and between 4,500 - 6,000 CUDA cores. The "professional" version (basically compute GPUs for servers) will use an 8-hi stack for 32 GB.
