I think the posing tools are fine. The animation tools are lacking. That is why they have 3rd parties for that stuff however. The third party tools inside studio may not be as powerful as other solutions, but people can either use them or take their models into other tools that fit their needs. While I could see studio getting some better tools, there are some solid reasons I don't see too much in this area as well. Most users really don't animate, there are already existing tools you can use externally for that, most serious artists can use more than one software in their workflow, and lastly if Daz added any tools they could compete or remove need of plugins they sell now.
Would I be mad if DS had some better animation tools? Heck no, but people should realize it's one of the tools in the kit and not the only one. What DS is best at, it only has a single competitor...I seriously doubt the tools you use for animation are as easy as DS for quick character creation.
Daz sells content, but Daz wants to be a player in the software market. I was using Unity a little for a course I was beta testing, and found the interface to be rather similar but SO MUCH more responsive... things like rotating the view port...actually rotated rather than thinking about it for a minute or two....and when I stopped moving the camera...the camera stopped moving, rather than remaining moving around with the mouse til it decides it's finsihed...things like that :)
@Scavenger I don't have the same performance issues you do with DS. Maybe its something with you system?
There are a few things to make sure of that may help your performance. Turn figures to base resolution when you are still setting things up, turn off smoothing modifier until ready to render, and make sure no pieces have the "interactive update" feature enabled. While most pieces don't have interactive update on, occasionallly I find a piece that does and this will really jack up your update speed.
And I've used Unity but I don't find it more responsive really. I'm sure Unity was designed to run well on really low end hardware, it's one of it's bragging points. DS actually works fairly well on modest specs, far better than something like 3DS max. It's easy to get a few million polys in a Daz scene with just a single character. You wouldn't do that in Unity. So there is a difference in what the tools do and have to put up with.
Daz sold software years ago, they mostly gave up on that as you can tell.. Daz Studio was always designed for the purpose of ensuring they could sell content if Poser went belly up...There was always a free version for that purpose. If you check the history you can see why they got other tools, and that they don't have development teams for them. Because they have no real interest in developing software. Other than DS that is. Daz is a "player" in the software market, you can see them (advertising usually) in digital art magazines all the time.
Hi Everyone
I thought I should point out that yes the walk cycle is from SKAmoiton but It's been slowed down and that has caused some irregular pops and weight issues. Also I must stress that the animation in this DAZ promo is not for Gen 3 but It's just about ready for release.
I'm working on the latest and greatest but like everyone points out, it is near impossible to animate in Daz and Genesis 3 does not port to Poser ( I feel Posers days are numbered ). This is what the walk animation for Gen 3 is currently looking like but please note that this is a work in progress with no breast animation and the toes are broken so please ignore that.

All the best

I don't have any issues as well moving characters in the view port, scavenger. I would suggest you have some system or driver issue (Open GL).
This video shows how to get more out of DAZ Studio for animation using graphMate and keyMate, and they are not expensive plug-ins. A good purchase if you want to keep everything in DAZ Studio.
Studio does give you a few ways of moving your characters... the risky click and move, or the rotate tools, or pick the body part from the list and use the sliders or rotate tools. Not as fancy as other programs, but you can do a lot.
Also check your preferences and turn off a lot of the fancy viewport functions
theres a couple there that do not need to be on at all
Still think the new logo is bad. Animation is really weak too...
Yeah, I do prefer 'ye olde' logo, but quite excited about Morph 3D as I do work in Unity.
Looked good technically, but there were some jerky movements inbetween that should have been avoided for a presentation vid.
Impressive camera and logo animation.
why is this sticky ?

It is posted by DAZ 3D so the answer has got to be "It's their Forum and they'll stick if they want to" sung to the tune of "It's my Party" (if you are old enough to remember it)

Animation for G3 is real question, as animations from G2 don't work. I have purchased and tried the script from Draagonstorm
http://www.daz3d.com/animation-conversion-genesis-2-to-genesis-3
It looks to run okay, for the first walkcycles I have converted. Anyone has other options ?
Great, now I'm never going to be able to look at that logo without thinking that lol
I find it curious that a female figure with such a realistically toned physique would have her entire gluteus maximus/medius smoothed out and flattened while her realistic bust was also unrealistically bulged out in a baseball rounded shape....Like every other female character morphed by guys... >_>
Don't get me started on makeup textures made by dudes... >_<
I for one, think the animation is quite accurate, and if it has been done without mocap, then I would have to say I'm very impressed indeed!
I really like Eva, very versatile figure, blending the face shape or body with others, works very well with great results in my opinion, the texture works well for teen figures.
Blending Eva and Josie with Eva textures make a really great older teen character
She is also fantastic out of the box ofcourse :)
Not sure if it is just me, but I somehow feel Eva is really underrated, I could be wrong, though, and I hope that I am :)
She is definitely a figure worth considering if you do not own her yet :) in my opinion
Very nice!
Nope.....
As an animator, with no immediate plans
to get into game dev,
I find the Genesis 3 Female to be a burdensome step
backwards from my purposes.
Her new rigging maks her non compatible with all the the methods
I have been using to transfer Character motion data to genesis and
poser figures for years now.
Just Look at how much trouble very experienced animators
( Like Skamotion), with access to Visual mocap hardware, are having creating a good walk cycle
for this figure
NO thanks Daz!!
I will stick with genesis 1&2+ Iclone5.5 Pro for my Character animation work.
Actually she works quite well in iClone, I just have not had much luck re-exporting the animation via pipeline unlike other figures.
