New Character: Mateo

Another addition to the DAZ gene pool. Nice looking figure.

I read once that the mountie uniform can't legally be replicated in this way, idk if that's really true.

Mateo's face seems kind of... featureless? Undersculpted? Idk, he's not for me. His body is nice though, and his mix with Dain is pretty hot.

is he inspired by someone specific? I don't recognise him.

He has a similar toon-like lack of detail/personality I noticed on Jazz 8.1, although Boris (Premier rental) seems to remedy that.

Meh. Just another white dude. But the detail on the fire engine is impressive.

Nice face, but pass. Chest gets too wonky for me combining G9M character shapes.

No granny / true heavy hag / real old woman yet :( (NO Minerva is not old and Walter is a thin old man).

    I think he is Hispanic.

He is rocking 90s pencil brows in many of the promos

I think I can find a use for the skin textures. Not interested in the body though.

Mateo 9 looks good, but he seems a little boring; the face appears strangely unfinished. It's as if someone had wanted to sculpt a very distinctive character head, but lost heart in the middle. Still, judging by the promos, he blends very well with other characters and gives them interesting accents. I also like most of the Character Bundle.

I had been thinking he looked from the Med, so I hit Google: "Mateo is a masculine given name, a form of Matthew used in Spanish and Croatian, similar to the Italian form Matteo." It was his lips that made me think of it. And with the fireman's outfit and truck, he must be from New York. It is nice there is a NY firehouse to store it in.

Just to be a voice of discent, I feel he can be molded to be whatever you need. By this time I have enough morph packages that could do whatever I like without fighting a distinctive sculpt.

I see that his character bundle has been added to the Premier character coupon. The bundle would be very useful for me.

He is fine, like boring Ashley is fine. What's really missing are expressively realistic poses and face expressions that show creases in the face. Botox ain't doing it.

A quick render of Boris for Mateo (with a little body hair, an M3D hair and beard, and a little Sickleyield Intense muscle morph):

Thanks @nemesis10! Boris is the finished sculpt, and Mateo was how he looked after the first hour.

Daz promo renderers love giving males fake eyelashes.

(Do they know that there are other options besides the default curled thick lashes?)

I thought his face sculpt was undercooked, but the textures are a nice edition to my collection. Most of the core 9 male caucasian textures are a bit weathered. Mateo's will work better for younger men.

I did some side by sides, because I really wasn't sure if he would be worth the money. I have the base figure only.

Mateo (brown hair) and the base masculine Gensis 9 (blond) wearing Mateo's textures. I think the base looks better, but Mateo's body sculpt is ok. That head tho...

Mateo next to Mateo wearing Nathan's textures. I thought the skins might be similar. Nathan is paler.

Mateo (left) next to a custom dial wearing Maeto's textures

    Usual cheesy romance cover test.

I think the textures are worth it for me, buying with a few discounts. There are better male skins but not, I think, any that go as young as this one can. The veins look kind cool, even with just the non-HD version. I don't think I'll ever use that head sculpt unless it blends well as a corrective.

(Big versions attached if you need to click through for detail)

Your custom dial is my favorite G9M ever! Mateo's skin may just make him work after all. Thanks again, @sid.

I wished I saved him. From memory he's a mix of Nathan (the body might be all Nathan with a neck and trap adjustment, done over Mateo's proportions), Rupert, a smidge of Wagner with the eye width ajusted to try correct the spacing

  • No, not for me  At least he actually looks like a male. With some males for the gen 9 a song always pops in my head...Aerosmith, Dude looks like a lady. Most "male" gen 9 are way too feminine.

Thanks for these renders! Unless DAZ adds another character that surpasses for the Premier coupon, he'll be my choice for this month.

  • He has the look of a Final Fantasy style character. The face looks quite feminine and stylised. Still a nice model though.

Why is he not 6 foot 3 inches?

it depends which "he" you are talikng about. Generic Mateo is roughly about the average height of men around the world. Ivan is tall for Americans but would be roughly average in the Czech Republic being over 6 feet tall.  Fortunately, changing a value in the proportion morph can make him whatevcer height you like.

The Daz name-and-number official characters are frequently not the size stated on their product page. No idea why.

That said, there's a Mateo 9 Proportion slider. For whatever reason, this isn't included in his default shape. When you slide the Mateo 9 Proportion slider  to 100%, he grows to almost -- but not quite -- his stated height. You then have to nudge the entirely separate Proportion Height slider from its Mateo-current 48% to 55% to get him all the way to 6-foot-3.

    Thanks

I was just having a look round at some of the Daz characters and they seemed to measure up to the height on the product page.

Mateo just seemed way off at around 5"8-10 where he is listed as 6"3.  He's way shorter than Michael 9 out of the box who is around 6 foot.

@nemesis10 totally understand but no point buying these chars in that case... just use a morph kit ;)  I can assume he's bugged.

Oh, no!  A height given to a numbered character is almost completely arbitrary since the user can adjust the  height in the basic settings (there are proportion/height adjustments in the same settings as tone and muscle).  A character sort of is a morph kit with a texture thrown in, as well as a theme you don't have to follow.
