IRender Materials: Architectural (Commercial) and IRAY displacement discussion

Now available is my set of PBR materials for DAZ Studio's IRAY renderer. This is a set of 30 materials which can be used on primatives to build your own scenes or applied to props you already own for a brand new look. The presets include bricks, plaster covered bricks, concrete variations, floor tiles, shingles, grass, copper and steel.
The materials have bump and normal maps for texture effects. However, there are also 30 matching displacement shader presets which can be applied separately. Great for close up renders where more "depth" is needed.

The implementation of displacement in Iray is a little different than in in the previous 3Delight render engine. The best results or more detailed is obtained with subdivision of the model. There are now 2 ways to accomplish this. One is to convert the model to SubD. There is a new parameter, Render SubD Level (Minimum), assoiciated with SubD which to increase the sud division of the model at render to time. This is accessed in the Mesh Resolution section of the model.
One issue with this is that this applies the same SubD parameter to the whole model which may be less than optimal. The other issue is you might have model or prop that should not be sub divided. Typically things like buildings are not sub divided because they have flat surfaces and SubD is not needed.
The other way to perform this subdivision is in the material itself. When you apply a displacement map to a material you gain access to SubD Displacement Level parameter. This allows you control over individual surfaces. For example if you have a house prop you may want more SubD on your roof for the tiles where the plain walls need less. The one caveat with this parameter is setting it too high can cause DAZ Studio to crash.
The attached image shows the results of some testing that I did varying the two parameters. The first 4 show the effects of increasing the SubD in the materials parameter. As you can see the tile edges become better defined. So for close up renders you would want to set this to a higher value. Converting the mode to SubD and increasing the Render SubD Level (Minimum) produces a similar result, (thumbs 5 & 6).
Now, one might think these two parameters are additive, but I didn't see this in my testing. In the last thumb (7) I have set both parameters to 3. Close inspection of this render doesn't show a difference from the renders where the individual parameters where set to 3 (thumbs 3 & 5).
The default for the displacement presets in this set is a SubD Displacement Level of 5. This should work for most props. However, if the prop is sub divided then you could also use the Render SubD Level (Minimum).
Cheers!
Got these this morning. Had problems with PC freezing when using the displacement. Now that I found this post all is well :)
Strixowl,
Sorry, just found your post. Glad it is working and thanks for your purchase!
