On a positive note, the last logo made me think of recycling which given new products in store was often very apt.

It reminds me of a cartoon character from many years ago, an eagle I think, some sort of bird anyway.

    YES!!!!

    Someone else does see it!

    Beaky the Buzzard...

I'm not sure, the beak was shorter in the one I am thinking of, Witch Hazel came to mind too laugh

    Grabbing hand for me too.

What interests me more is this "face" change. DAZ seems to want to cut the connections with the Poser related age. My take it that they are not only targeting different markets like game developers (already being done by Morph3D) but also moving towards the general professional/semi-professional 3D crowd, a user demographics where just mentioning Poser is a show stopper.

I second the grabby hand impression.

+1. Not the nicest association. I don't want to be arrogant, but I think they should try to make their logo more concise - and read a bit about Gestalt theory...

    Remarkably similar color palette.

I have to say that I like it ! It is so graphic and simple, but is it right label/ mark for Daz3d company ?
I think it is better for painters and graphic programs and not for 3D programs, or if they will united someday ... just thinking ;-)

The small icon on the product looks like a sock puppet to me. Maybe a new mascot!

Small version - blob of color

    Medium Version - grabbing hand

Big Version - if I try hard, I can see the face

  • LeatherGryphonLeatherGryphon Posts: 12,183

I still think it is a 3D artist who's head exploded at the back.

think it is meant to be a hand drawing from the brain actually, or mousing as the case may be here

And this logo and  icon was reviewed and approved by corporate?  Formless nonsense. cheeky  Missed the whole point and couldn't figure out what the %$@%# it was untill it was pointed out in this thread.  Perhaps the icon should link to this thread first.

It's a grabby hand from one of those 1960 coin bank gizmos. Especially in the shrunken version that appears in the store on DAZ Original products.

Last night, after a long hard day, I sat in front of the computer and decided to ponder the new logo... After ten minutes, I decided I needed a shower... After that I came back and decided to ponder it some more...

After ten minutes more I decided regular pondering was not going to work, so I got a couple of beers and started repondering...

Okay, now that it's been pointed out... I get the face and that it's looking at the company name saying "why did you do this?"... I get that part, but... What I can't get past is the stuff that is going on behind it... Hair... Fingers... Tentacles... Amoebic pseudopods... Tendrils of confusion... Why do they have undercuts?... Is there a hidden message in there?... After a lot of pondering and beers I finally figured it out... But I passed out and when I woke up I was in the yard with a possum going through my wallet...  In a dream, I had an impression the logo may have something to do with possums robbing you, but that just may be because there was a possum going through my pockets...

Now this stupid logo is really obsessing me... And as I write this it occurred to me that well may be the point... In current marketing theories there are no "bad" ideas... If you do something terrible and people hate it, you did good, because people are talking about it and people don't have to like what you do... it doesn't have to be good, or look good, or make sense... All you have to do is get people to talk about what you did... The more people talk about it, the more your brand is mentioned... Negative or positive, it's mentioned... That's all that really counts.

It's like when your 3 year old kid draws a picture of a nine armed purple porcupine with a giraffe neck and says "it's you daddy"... You don't kick them out of the house and send them to live with their grand aunt on a yak farm in Tibet... Well, mostly... What you do is hang that picture up on the fridge... And and that is what this is like... Almost literally... Only here the kid put the picture up themselves... I think if we just ignor this abomination and put some old calendars, recycling notices, shopping lists and similar stuff gradually over it... It will be forgotten and hopefully something better will show up.

    ? Eh?

I think the new logo and font are terrible, bad design all around. I mean just read this thread, no one can tell what is, or it looks good full size but not small. Good design looks good no matter the size. Bad move Daz... And to think someone got paid to come up with that...

moving towards the general professional/semi-professional 3D crowd, a user demographics where just mentioning Poser is a show stopper.

If that was the case the store content would have changed. It has not. The general profession/semi pro poser/daz pinup crowd is already around(and more specialized stores). New icon won't change the store content. Without a change in content, not sure how they can get a new audience.

I understand, faces point left.  But with the caveat that they point left at the beginning of a line and right at the end of a line unless they are iconic in a specific direction or a registered trademark.  But generally, I believe that in western societies, we usually see faces pointing left when at the beginning of a line.

Oh, and for what the new DAZ icon represents...  After hours and hours of deep contemplation I think I see an artists palette in the hand grabbie part.

Repositioning a brand is not something you do overnight, especially when you are dealing with a 15+ years legacy. Moving to a completely different logo, without any connection with the previous one, signals the will to create a deep discontinuity with the past. Well, if DAZ goes this way,I am super happy about it.

Nothing they have done suggests they are truly doing anything different. That is one of the reasons the new logo is annoying to me. All comments from PA's and mods suggest nothing is changing and they are firmly entrenched in what their past has created.(we are worse now than we were 5 years ago content wise)

As long as Daz leaves everything up to PAs nothing will change. Anytime I suggested Daz curate content, it gets shot down. (others have suggeted it too for their own needs. Always met with resistance). That's why I don't even call them a content company anymore.

Of course I'm still around for the ride. I am curious to see what happens. Anything is possible, but I'm not going to be fooled so easily :) Actions speak louder than logos.

I still find the logo somewhat creepy. It reminds me of something, abut I can't really say what. Maybe it's Jenova from FF7. Or an awakened being from Claymore. Something in that area...

*smile* I like it, it is what it is... it symbolizes Daz's constant aim to change, improve and move - they are moving on up. And we can all imagine that it TOO will change and improve just as their Generation Family constantly moves up and changes. Although, my only complaint in it all is that they refuse to add a REAL - lifelike baby/newborn in the mix... no more toddlers, everyone is created on the table and not BORN even though they all have a navel.

Just wanted to toss that in there, heehee as I've been hoping and looking for YEEEARS in hopes that a stunning BABY would emerge. Cube seems to be the last to attempt it. *sigh*
