Here goes my piece on this. I hope it makes sense. It isn't meant as a rant, but I think it needs being said.
No way, at this time, I am interested in G3 females.
I have plenty of all kinds of content, and there is no way I will even look at a G3 Female until there is a G3 Male
Also, I probably won't be interested then, because I have a large enough library of M4,G1 and G2 characters and content.
DaZ3D sales continue to hammer away at G3 female and I'm only interested in other/than G3 anything.
Currently, Daz does not put up a sale more than couple time a week on items that are for users interested in other things besides G3 female.
Even if I had bought G3 female, should Daz be so focused on selling more G3 female that don't offer anything else.
All they are doing is pushing us to other website sources for content.
The Daz3d sales are strange - Buy something for too much money that I don't want, in order to buy something I do want for a discount.
--- Whoops here is a little math exercise to understand these strange offers ----
Add the price of what you have to pay for the content you don't want to the price you pay for what you do want.
Calculate the discount then;
Usually the discount is non-existent. What did you actually, pay and what was the discount on the items you actually wanted.
Price for content I don't want = $13.95
Content items I do want at $60.00 at 50% discount = $30 then I add back the $13.95 for what I don't want or need.
The final price you pay = $43.95 and that is equal to 1 minus ($43.95/$60) = a discount of 26.75% for the items you actually do want.
Now you can determine for yourself, if you consider that a discount.
If you are lucky enough to get your money's worth in these types of promotions... good for you.

Daz is the only company I know that does something like this. I can understand this on occasion, but not all the time.
Look at the shop today... Look at all the buy something new sales- you don't really want the new item/s, yet you buy to get a discount on something you do want at a discount.
I don't usually participate, because I don't take the time mess with the math.

Also, we need more filters for search and sort in the shop. It would save us a ton of time.
I hate having to view large number of images for content I don't have any interest.
I don't do half naked women, or buy any of that content.
I realize there are game builders that need those images for their work, which is their business.
Yet, without adequate filters on the shop... I have to go through tons of those images looking for something I want.
I realize Renderosity and others arent' alot better, but who sets the bar? The competition or Daz3d.
Anyway, for the most part. I don't care, because I have begun to know the artists work I prefer and ignore the rest.
So, I will never purposely look at any artists work I don't know... who might actually have something of interest to me
I don't have time to view the universe of images.
Computers are excellent for search and sort. It is archaic thinking not use these abilities in an e-commerce store.

While I fully understand your not wanting to move to G3, As I'm Sticking with M4/V4 & G1 for a good long while. I also understand the Not wanting to buy things you don't want to get sale prices, there are some people who do. I looked at a couple items, and really liked one... But there was nothing else I wanted from that sale to get the best price, So I didn't buy it, I can wait. Sooner or later there will be better sales. Daz has many types of sales, Some I like, and others I ignore. Have patience, there is a better sale for you in the near future...
However, I will agree better filters in the store are needed... Like a Exclude PC items, for those times when need to search for things not in the PC+ group... ...

Yet, think about the preponderance and redundancy of the same buy something you don't need sales since G3 was released.

Sometimes a sale is worth it. I got the Ninive 6 Pro Pack, because the hair and outfits were well worth the $20 or so for the pack, at sale price. I have found the Ninive 6 body and skin... fun to use, but I'm pretty sure I could dial in something similar. It just saves me a little effort, which I wouldn't be willing to buy, normally.
I was the saame way with Olympia 6, once all was said in done, it was $15.00 for 3 hairs and 3 outfits... if I never use Olympia herself, I still think it was a good deal.
Honestly i love victoria 7 sure for gen 2 users it may be a bit of a change considering that the poses dont seem to work right anymore but you know what. whatever. the main benfit also is for more iray compatiblity if you are using that (though im sure lots of items will be made to support g2)
it is not a requriment......a lot of people apparently still love v4. even though i trying it out see that a lot of the older outfits and such do not properly show up in the smart content view so....
I think G3 is very nice and i dont really yet have a large library of stuff so maybe since im sort of newer to the scene. its less of an issue.
sorry some people dont like G3 stuff but thats ok im sure they will still be more g2 stuff to come just as apparently they are still stuff made for v4 too! just do what works for you. and yeah maybe its a shame for some a lot of the sales are on g3 stuff but ive seen some stuff for g2 too. its just you gotta understand if
g3 is the next big thing its obvious they are going to be promoting it more. I dont think by any means that G2 charecters are going to be obsolete by any means. more so considering many people are coming out with nice g2 shaders to work with iray for them to me i think its the best of best worths. you still can use lots of g2 stuff but you have the OPTION of G3 as well
I honestly love V7 better than V6. V7 poses much better and her physical attributes and appearance is a definite upgrade from V6, IMO. I'm just a hobbyist so I don't really pay much in depth attention to the details of how she's made, etc. etc, like what some of the rants have been about. There's still room for improvement but for now, I just know that she works much better for me than G2F/V6. And honestly, it is a given that with a new generation of Victoria/Genesis, there will also be new contents made specific for her. There's been too much G2F contents already. Some being just a tweak of another vendor's product, etc. etc. I've stopped buying G2F contents as I no longer really have any use for her.
I agree with ThatGuy, G3F / V7 is better than G2F / V6. I am just a hobbiest as well but have used Daz Studio since the beginning and Poser since 2000. G3F / V7 is the best yet.

Why are you all feeling forced into 'must buy' by those sales? I mean, yes, if it is something I want, and it fits into my budget, and happens to create an additional discount, I will buy. But if not, I have a wishlist, which is very patient.
I know I allowed myself to be pushed by sales OMG, you gonna miss the great discounts!, but after 2 years here, I know that everything will be part of another sale with better discount than the initial one, if I just wait a few months.
Just wondering.

Yep, I don't understand either why people feel that way. You either want to buy it because you have the money to spend or not. If it's not something you can use and it's not appealing to you, then don't buy it. As for the sales, sometimes....sometimes, it's cheaper to just buy that one item you wanted than trying to participate in the sale that is offered and buying 3 or 4 items with it just to get the discount.
Sorry, I wasn't replying to you in specific, but to the thread in general. :-) If I had been more awake at the time of posting, I would've probably noticed that lapse.

In a way, it seems deceitful. I'm not deceived for sure, but I wonder what is in the mind of the person creating these kinds of sales.
If the purpose is to motivate sellers, it may work.
I think most of the people into CGI are NOT stupid enough to fall into that kind of eighth grade hype.
If anyone is listening at Daz... I ignore all the buy this to get that sales, and pay no attention to them.
I don't have any G3, and I am not saying anything bad about G3 The work I am doing now doesn;'t call for high quality female characters.
G3 male I would be more interested.
The way I see it, Rampart, is that it changes the balance.
Let's say I am willing to pay $5 for an item, but not $25. Let's say other people are willing to pay $25 for that item.
By bundling a bunch of things together with the item, they can essentially trade -- if you ONLY want the item, then maybe you'll just pay $25. If you want the cheaper price and kind of like the other items, you are motivated to buy it.
There's nothing dishonest about it. They want to sell more product, and bundle or bogo sales help cover a broad range of potential customers while still making good money.
I basically consider it a method to encourage production of new content items, and promote new artists.
That isn't a bad thing, for sure.
There are too many of these types of sales. Almost all week that is what we have experienced.
The deceit or dishonest bit, that is or is not in the perception of the buyer.
I ignore those promotions and it is my prerogative.
