Another import question. Bryce?

Yes, again. Found a freebie on ShareCG which i'd like to be able to bring into Studio. Don't need the rigging, although matt zones would be helpful (although I can do that myself if I must).

This time it's a Bryce file. Or at any rate, the file extension is .br6 which I am assuming is Bryce. The import function in Studio doesn't recognize it. Neither does Silo.

At least this time I do have the required program. I've got an old copy of Bryce 7.1.0.74. I haven't reinstalled it because I would like some info first.

For one thing, it only runs in 32-bit on a Mac and it comes in an old Bitrock installer which I am not sure is going to run in Yosemite. For that matter, I'm not sure that the program will run in Yosemite. Anyone able to confirm that? I know it ran in Snow Leopard so the 64-bit system won't be a deal breaker.

2nd question. Assuming that the program will run, and I can actually get the file open, will Bryce export it in a format that I can bring into Studio? I am assuming as much, but would like confirmation about that too.

ETA: if the Bitrock installer is MiA, I can still restore the application from my old TimeMachine backup, but am not altogether certain that that will bring in all the necessary user files, although I would check the backup's user account for them. But there may be something else hidden somewhere that I'd need.

It might be functional enough on Yosemite to export as .obj, if you could get it installed.  Would you like me to move this to the Bryce forum?

I'm not a Mac person, so I'll just point you at this post in case it gives you any additional insight: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/19948/info-for-mac-users-regarding-os-x-lion-mountain-lion-and-os-x-mavericks#latest

As for the transfer from Bryce to DAZ Studio, it really depends on what's in the scene.  Some things will transfer (I can send a terrain for example), some things will not (Bryce shaders don't work in DAZ Studio, metaballs don't work, etc), some things will transfer but with changes that may be undesirable (baked on materials might not be very good, polygons might have issues, etc.), and some of the transfer defaults aren't always what you want (terrain defaults shouldn't be used, adjust for acceptable quality).  Perhaps if we knew what the product was we might be able to offer additional insight.

Bryce will not run on any version of Mac OS X later than 10.6

Well that tears it for getting at it on this computer. Fortunately the (real) laptop is running SnowLeopard. I daresay I can put it on a flash drive and export as .obj there.

    Thanks, all.

(It's a model of the Analytical Engine. Should export as an .obj without too much problem. Shaders I can apply in Studio)
