The Blink Sale....
I've been an outspoken critic of some of Daz sales, but I've always been impressed by Daz Sales team ability to create the varity types of sales. Like straight up sales? Daz has them. Like to collect punches to get the best discount? Daz has them. Like the Stand on you head and chant Mississippi 5 times backwards while the Blue moon rises over Greenland at midnight sales? Yeah Daz has those as well. Dislike one type of sale? Don't worry there will be other soon. The blink sale is another interesting sale, and I congradulate the team for comming up with it.
However, I have two suggestions to improve them.
The first one is not really mine, but I fully support it, and that is a countdown timer. Even if it is only a 10 minute warning banner. Seems unfair to those who might just have found out about the sale to lose out because they were still shopping without any idea of how much time was left, or have to run to the checkout every couple minutes to make sure they get somethings.
second, Some people work for a living, or live in other timezones. Seems really not right to exclude them from some sales just because it isn't possible for them to log in. Back when I worked 2nd shift years ago, Prime time TV would have their 8pm,9pm,10pm shows, and then would repeat them at 11pm,12,pm,1am. I never felt I missed anything like this. Since the last time the Blink Sales Started at ~1pm, and ended at 9pm, Why not repeat the 1pm->7pm Starting at 9pm, so there is a chance those of us that missed the start can partake as well. I was bummed to miss the historic sale the other day, and really upset I didn't even get a chance to see the G2M sale today, as there is more on my wishlist from there than from elsewhere.

I so agree. A count down counter, at the very least, would be nice. Several times lately, I've been looking at something and add it to the cart to find it full price. It's bad enough with the longer "Flash" sales but the "Blink" ones are even more ridiculous. I was looking at something for V4 a bit ago, carted. Bam, over... Lost sale. Though I did buy something from FastGrab just a short while afterward... But, still. LOL
Yeah, but you're missing the point. The whole concept is designed to place the customer under pressure through uncertainty. "Do I buy now? Maybe I only have two tenths of a second left before the sale ends. I can't risk it ..." CLICK!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
yeah, I agree with acanthis. The word "Blink" alone implies the possibility of losing out on the good price if you as much as blink or delay in making the purchase.
Exactly!
The problem today was that there were 57 pages of items in the "blink" sale!
How are we supposed to go through all that? The amount of time allotted should be proportional to the number of items.
I can guarantee that it is working.
2 days of blinks and my monthly 3D budget is gone. :)
But picked up some Stonemason and an IgnisSerpentus bundle I had been waiting for.
No reegrets!
Blink Sale: Buy Now, Think Later ;)
If you're on Windows you can use this to notify you whenever a new sale starts:

The sale was over before I had even gone through all the pages. I had to pull a bunch of items out of my cart. I guess DAZ misses out on my money this time. They'll probably get it next time though.
The latest Daz tactic of putting people under pressure to buy in the blink of an eye without giving them the time to make an informed purchasing decision stands to lead to a lot of staff hours taken up processing refunds after the event, not to mention dealing with customers who've found they've just inadvertently paid full price for their goods because the sale ended in the middle of the transaction. The cost of all those hours might well be dwarfed at the side of short-term gains made during the sales, but the price of a disillusioned customer is one that's likely to be paid forever. What a very strange way to do business.
Over 40 or 50 pages and no way of knowing how much time is left while trying to find Poser-useable items in the Genesis stuff? Nope, I'm outta here for a sale like that. At least Flash Sales, when I catch 'em, give me a bit more leeway. :sigh: Didn't even get a chance at the couple V4 & Stonemason sets I wanted, just too much to sort & not enough time.
But, hey, congrats to all who were able to snag those goodies they wanted at a bargain. Maybe next time I'll be lucky too. :crosses fingers:
It's their time, besides, DAZ 3D is known for being fare in the refund dept.
This just happened to me. I just opened a ticket.
A big plus to keeping a rigorous wish list.
I highly recommend Taozen's Sales Watcher (which he posted above) and Cypherfox's Wishlistify. My bank account doesn't, but who's in charge, right? Just don't tell the wife.
And the thought of inadvertantly paying full price is why I ignore the blink sales. DAZ used to get me with the buy now sales or you might miss it, that only happened twice before I decided it wasn't worth it.
some stuff I rendered tonight that i picked up from fridays 60% blink sale.. They were all in my wishlist so it was a easy grab :)
all great suff though I really like the Indie anna outfit for g2f & g2m
I missed the last few as I was asleep! I obviously live in the wrong time zone for most of these sales!
That would be based on your spending/buying habit. Other people might have had 20 pages, or five pages...(the Hide What I Own option.)
And the "buy it fast" still does not address the fact that people working wouldn't even get THAT opportunity. But frankly, after a couple years, I've learned to "meh" any missed sales because there will always be another one as good- or better. For example- today I can get an additional 10% my order as I've bought two new items.
Good to see this being promoted up to a topic on its own. Something worth considering DAZ is that in our haste to fill our carts with 'bargains' and hurtle towards the checkout in haste we may regret our decisions and then need sales support to refund items or whole orders. Perhaps having not spotted the limitations of the product i.e. only suitable for Michael (as in the original version 1 or 2), that the conversion feature of the tool you've just purchased is no longer required as all the features are now in DAZ Studio or PAs have converted and updated their products making it obsolete. I'm going to be joining the queue at the customer services counter soon with some of mine.
awww I blinked and missed
I jumped on a few of the blink sales i happened to see and made sure when i checked out it was going to paypal at the right price. I have only asked for a refund once in all my time at DAZ and it was due to the product not working. (I wish they would lose that policy since I am sure it is abused by some)
Personally i am thrilled to have the blink sales as i have gotten a few great items. Better to have missed some than not had the sales at all IMO. There are lots of times I am asleep or at work and miss out on things, but it never crosses my mind to complain about it, hmmmmm
Yeah, this is nuts.
Well, I, for one, would buy a lot fewer things without a refund policy. There have been a good $200 worth of stuff I've had refunded because it's outdated, works terribly, or due to DAZ site glitches (like several 'I was supposed to get this on sale but didn't)
Mind you, I promptly spent that money on other DAZ stuff. Otherwise, I'd buy very sparingly and possibly focus more on other sites.
was an I Dream of Jeanie(genie?) blink
sale lit up the 'sweet angel' on my w/l, so i has something to remember the sale by
Well, Which is worse, complaining in the forums about something or complaining about the complaining on a thread complaining about something in the forums? Or is it the complaining about the complaint in the complaint thread that is complaining about the complaint thread in the forums?
Or is it the Complaint about complaining about a complaint that was lodged against the complaint about the complaint in the tread that is complaining about the complaint in the thread that is complaining in the forums? Wait, What? I'm lost now.
Anywho, this wasn't really a complaint thread nor was I really complaining about the sales in the first place, but as the goal of most sales is to increase sales, I was merely offering some suggestions to improve sales while not altering the fundamentals of the sales in the first place. I was simply noticing that from the timing of the sales, the principle target of the sales appears to be Greenland or some other Mid-Atlantic island, and it seems strange that, assuming Europe and the US/Canada are the primary users of Daz, you would want to limit those people who can partake in the sales by limiting them to hours that many people find difficult to participate. By simply repeating the sales once, you would double the exposure to the sales and increase sales during the sales significantly, while mostly maintaining the Blink sale concept, because if you could partake in the sale the first time round, odds are 8 hrs later, you would need to sleep/work/be elsewhere. All this is of course assuming Daz is trying to increase sales.
While a number of people support a full countdown clock, some have suggested that this would actually work against the concept of the frenzy purchase of the blink sale, However, a five or ten minute warning banner would likely increase the frenzy of the last minute purchase. How many people came to the forums after a cart full of stuff became full price? How many more did not? I missed some items, and I simply emptied my cart, oh well, next time. Having this happen will make some ignore future blink sales as well. How many more sales would they have made if a red flashing banner saying you have five minutes left to check out appeared as you were shopping? As for third party apps, and counters... Well, Daz clocks seem to get their time from some alternate dimension, where minute become hours, days become weeks, and weeks become hours, I don't necessarily trust that the apps clocks are going to match Daz clocks.
Now to be fully honest, I picked up a couple items off the Blink sales that I had not seen on sale before, but for the most part, I was not upset by any missed sale as 60% off is basically my bare bones minimum to get excited over. and for some items such as the Victoria 4 items, I have seen much better sales at 70->80->90% off. and anything I missed will be back again at some point in the future.
I think Daz losing their return policy would be a very bad idea for Daz. Over the last 6 months I've dumped about $800.00 into Daz (Yikes! it sounds worse when you type out like that). Of that $800.00, approximately $200.00 was on things I wasn't sure about, things that I was only willing to take a chance on because "Well, If it doesn't work, I can return it." Of that only 3 items have been returned, 2 because they were so out of date, they simply didn't work, and 1 because I missed the "for Carrara only", for a total of about $40, which I spent on other things. While some people probably abuse the return policy, removing it will only punish those who don't. (on second thought, removing the return policy might help me limit how much I spend, so go for it)
Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it... Have a great day all.
Chris
WOW! Either I'm REALLY in the WRONG time zone or I blink VERY slowly. I've never even heard of a "blink sale". I didn't even realize I was missing out until now. Now I feel bad, LOL!
A lot of us WISH that we only spent 800 dollars over the last six months.
A ten-minute warning would've been great. I had a lot of items in my cart when the sale ended. Now they're on the wishlist in the hope I catch them the next time I can afford them.
An option to get an email notice for sales would also be great, even if it wasn't sent until the sale began.
You worry about this too much. You've said similar in the past. If you don't want it, don't use it. But don't wish away other peoples options.
LOL
