Iray Skydome
in The Commons
I know that there are threads on the subject matter already. None of my old books marks work and there is no search option in the new forums.
I am trying to load a skydome in 4.8 to render in iray. When I go to render it, it renders the wrong color.

You can read this, it explais how to use the render settings:

Use the number of the post of the old forum link and add them to the new forum link format, as in:

thanks
That site tells you how to do it but not how to fix any of the issues I am getting
Washed out background, Wrong Color in Backgrounds. I try and adjust everything and still can't get anywhere.
The only thing I can think of is that you haven't turned off the headlamp on your camera? Or you are setting a light too high.
Have you tried SikleYield's iRay video tutorials? She explains lumens as well in one of them.

Just to be clear... are you loading a HDRI file into the Environment map? If so, it sounds like your image is not a proper quality image for use.
Are you using a linear workflow?
I don't think so.
A lot of problems are going to crop up, especially with lighting intensity, if a linear workflow isn't used. HDRI lighting almost demands it...
May I ask what exactly is linear workflow?
If you could post a render here, that might help us figure out what's going wrong.
This may be another issue entirely, but I had a problem with a skydome and was told it was not possible to turn off any object shodows when rendering with Iray, ie. all objects have to cast shodows. The option in the menu isn't there as far as I can see, but I am new to Daz Studio.
Here's a good article that explains linear workflow. http://renderman.pixar.com/view/LinearWorkflow
That's one of the links I've been having trouble finding, tonight...was wondering why Google kept timing out on me...my family was streaming things on at least 3 separate devices.
I know you know a lot about this stuff and the link was interesting as background and why. But the simple answer here is to go to the render settings and turn gamma correction ON and set it to 2.2. That should take care of it except in cases where a specific texture or two doesn't comport. As Richard Haseltine explained, turning gamma correction on causes the images to be converted to linear before rendering and the 2.2 is for the output---just as the linked information says should happen.
The main problem here is that sky domes, such as the ones we use with 3Delight, don't work well with iRay. This is the issue. And even if you pulled it off, your render times will be horrendous.
Yes, this is a different issue. You can manage what you want, I am told, if you use iRay's Interactive mode instead of the default Photoreal mode. I have never used Interactive mode, so best that you start a new thread or search the forums on the topic.
