Reloading New Texture Maps

I haven't used D|S for several years and have just upgraded to D|S 4.8.  I used to be able to change a texture map outside of D|S in a paint program, save it (same name), switch back over to D|S and within seconds it would refresh on the screen.  It also seems there was a command the would force a reload.  Well, in D|S 4.8 that doesn't seem to be working.  I can see the new texture in the Diffuse setting in the little image that pops up.  But the character won't refresh.  Even when I render, it doesn't reload the new texture.  I even tried setting it to some other texture and that worked immediately.  But if it has the same name, it won't reload.  How do I force DS to reload the textures?

Never mind - I found it on the little fly-out menu in the upper-left corner of the Surfaces tab.  You click on Automatically Refresh Images.  Then I had to change the texture in Photoshop and save it again and it automatically refreshed in D|S. YAY!

Is this actually working for you?

I just submitted a bug report about texture refresh. What happens with me is that the tex refreshes ok in the viewport, but when I render, it's the old texture. It's also happening to several other ppl I've talked to.

I'd be interested to know if it works for you in the render.

Note - Automatic refresh worked for me the first few times, then suddenly stopped wotking. Very mysterious.

    have you tried (CTRL I)

That is what I do. I can see why it doesn't try to keep track of each and every image in the scene, but if you do make updates you can just press that key command it it will update right then for you.

There are two issues in this area you might be encountering.

One is that if you edit an image (such as the diffuse image) in GIMP, DAZ Studio suddenly looses the image, and instead displays the DAZ logo as a thumbnail (not 100% certain, but I THINK it keeps using the old image in renders).  You have to exit and restart DAZ Studio every time you edit the image to make it see the updated image.

The second issue you could be seeing is that if you have two images with the same partial filename (just the terminal part of the filename and part of the path, without the full path) on your system, DAZ Studio can use the wrong one.  If you have scene1.duf referencing C:\runtime1\CustomImages\fileX.jpg and then create scene2.duf referencing a different image called C:\runtime2\CustomImages\fileX.jpg, scene2.duf will work great until you exit DS, then the next time you open scene2.duf it will silently start using the wrong image from scene1.duf instead.  To avoid this, part of the image file's pathname within the runtime must be unique across your entire system.  To use the example above, to fix this problem I always include the unique runtime folder name within the subfolder, like C:\runtime1\runtime1CustomImages\fileX.jpg and C:\runtime2\runtime2CustomImages\fileX.jpg , then it works correctly.

An issue I've found is I'll change an image in (photoshop), save it, switch to Daz, hit Cmd-I to refresh, and nothing happens.

If I then go and just draw a random line on the map, save it, switch to Daz, hit Cmd-I, it'll refresh...and then I "Undo" the line on the image, save, refresh and it's the way I wanted in the first place.

Me too. I think it worksd about 25% of the time, and always unpredictably.

I've never had much luck with refreshing texture maps.  I usually just add a version designator to them and load that, instead.  Clearing the cache/temp folder does sometimes help.

Wow, I've not had that issue and there are projects I use Ctrl I excessively.

Guess I've been lucky! That seems like a chore and I can't really do that due to workflow relying on names not changing (ie too much work to update other tools to match...)

Usually, once I'm happy with the edits, I swap the name to the original/one I want....

I'm not exactly sure why it doesn't always work.

I 'm experiencing that problem as well after upgrading to 4.8 - so I have to go back to renaming pictures the way I used to have to back in DAZ 2. Especially if I only change minor things like turning it brighter or darker or so.

I can never get texture maps to refresh after I have edited them in Photoshop. But it's been a problem for several versions, not just 4.8. I have to save the scene, close Studio then re-launch it and re load the scene. Ridiculous. They really should have a way to do this.

An update on the issue of textures not refreshing.

I bug reported it, and DAZ were able to reproduce the issue, so it's now marked 'To be Fixed'

Is there an update or workaround to this?

edit: nevermind, it's working just fine, it's been a long day x.x

I wait a few seconds after saving in Photoshop before using Ctrl-I to refresh. Almost every time it doesn't refresh for me is when I switch back to Studio and refresh too quickly.
