Why can't Genesis3 have a addition UV map???
in The Commons
Okay so I understand that the new UV layout is better for those who use the figure in other programs, but there are some of us who aren't useing other programs and who would rather be able to use the skins we have, then have to get a bunch of new skins .......Isn't there some way to get the V5 or V4 UV layout to fit Genesis3 ........ or could someone come up with a texture converter to do the deed???

there are a few threads for this. technically its far from easy. people have some complex processes to do this however if you want to dig them up.
Thank you Lars ,I'll start looking for those threads ...
Just make the figures a fixed color and place freckles and whatnot with LIE!
(no, I'm not seriously suggesting this)
... Although now that I've said it, I'm curious to try.
This, right here. The short answer is "No one can do it in a way that can actually work without seams; they're way too different, much more so than G2 was different from G1 or G1 from Generation 4."
Wow.
So I'm working with G3F, and I didn't buy the pack, so I'm dealing with the very limited options. I make a smile to the left.
And there's a really artificial looking 'fold' in the mouth.
Look, there's maybe 20 dials, total, for the core G3F. Could you maybe get those right?

The fourth generation, Genesis and Genesis 2 all split the figure up into surfaces in the same way. That meant applying one set of maps to the other was just a question of rearranging the polygons within each surface. Genesis 3, and looking back the figures from before the fourth generation, have different divisions into surfaces and so can't use the maps from another geenration by simply shuffling polygons within a surface. We have to hope that at soem point there will be conversion tools.
Ok, here's the picture. Look at the right side of her mouth. Sheesh.
Obviously the eyebrows are dumb looking, but otherwise, hey. That's just one color skin with some bump noise.
Thank you Richard at least there is Hope of a conversion system , but would it be possible to open(I'm not sure if this will make sense)Genesis3's UV like the older Genesises ........maybe I'm haveing issues cause I'm thinking of it more like a sewing pattern ........we are ending up with a similar shape, using different patterns pieces........
Actually I have made 20 very simple skin variations and eyebrows ,blush ,lipcolor to use with her, cause I'm not really looking so much for photo realistic .......
Yep your eyebrows look very masculine ,or like a woman who NEVER ever plucked, shaved or waxed ........
They are actually quite nice. Just resize them a smaller and they will work!
I could also do other stuff to vary the skin. Again, I'm quite pleased at the ability, in Iray, to tile different channels separately.
Proof of concept, really. I think if I had the inclination I could do a reasonable job at most skin. But hey, I'm otherwise happy with pre-Generation 3 and lots of existing skins. :)
No, ain places a single surface on G3 covers areas on two surfaces, with different maps, on the older figures and vice versa - and there may not be edges on G3 that match the boundaries on the older figures exactly to begin with.
There aren't, MallenLane said as much in his post on the matter...the underlying geometry was changed, a lot, this time around. One of the major changes, that isn't readily visible, is the interior of the mouth. Another is the fact that there is now an actual eye socket. Both of those have no corresponding areas on the old geometry. Then there are the new layouts for the limbs/torso divisions, with changes in where the edge loops fall.
"complex process" ... hehehe ... trying boring as all whatever ... anyhow ... seams ... oh well, what's the fun if there were no challenges to be had eh.
The beginning tutorial I have posted a link to here
The seams bit, that is still a WIP and also trying to get the instructions as simplified as possible. Might be done by Christmas lol ...
