That is an interesting comparison. I may be moving to Mac, and of course the Luxcore GPU stuff is in development on Carrara. Thanks for posting that glaseye. Have you tried the Luxcore that would be interesting.
My biggest problem wlith Reality was the need to spend massive amounts of time re-doing all the mats. And at least within Reality, the mat settings were highly variable. Some types of mats had tons of variations, like fabric. Others, like leather, had very few, at least in terms of what came with the default interface. I don't know that I ever saw here on the DAZ shop a lot of Reality mats or shaders or surfaces, either... so it meant going in and dealing with it all by hand. Here we are a couple of months into Iray being the default and, no doubt *because* it is the default, I already have about 6 packages of shaders and more on my wish list.
I am not one who has time to go in and make my own shaders, or spend hours on mat settings. I need to be able to double-click aluminum and have it LOOK like aluminum. And same with all other types of surfaces. In Reality I could do that with *some* things but not with others, and this really made me not want to deal with it. Finally, in Iray for the most part, I can double-click the Iray Uber, tell it to ignore image maps (i.e. keep the ones already there), and most surfaces other than skin come out just fine as is, at least unless you are doing a close-up. This was simply not the case in Reality... I had to play with it too much.
Overall, I will say that after playing around, I really *liked* the results I was getting in Luxrender. I just wasn't willing to play around that much, and I feel like, once I figured out lighting intensity, I was able to get decent Iray renders more easily.
Nope, haven't tried luxcore... though it surely is interesting...
