Regarding past G2 products - will they be updated at some point with IRAY shaders? DS does a good job with converting shaders for IRAY but it would be great to have specific IRAY shaders for past G2 products as they generally look better and render faster. Are DAZ and the PA’s working on this or is the policy to include IRAY shaders from 4.8 onwards?

I'm guessing here, but I doubt you will see much in the way of updating right now. It is possible that people will have more time later to go back and do updates. But currently QA is slammed and many PA's are still getting a handle on Iray. And to be really honest..going back to something you did in the past can be really tough. By the time we get most products submitted we are so tired of them we never want to look at them again.

As always DAZ can encourage PA's to do some types of support and can require elements they expect for buy outs. They can not really put a foot down on what the PA's will support however. I think most PA's will try and support Iray where possible because it is the default render engine going forward and so there will be expectations by many/most people that it is supported in the future. I think that where it is possible we will see support for both 3dl and Iray for a good while.

Damn, I should have checked the forum first. I bought these thinking they WEREN'T iray lights. That's real bull they don't explicitly state it except at that one tiny area at the bottom. I was so hoping these were for 3Delight... no wonder I can't get my renders looking good with these. I was expecting the IRAY watermark to be there. But that being said, I have gotten a couple of nice renders out of them.

I know this is not a commercial/show us your renders thread but I thought I'd post a render I did today using Painter's Lights. This is the first Iray render I've posted anywhere so be gentle. :p

I'm lazy and love click and go lighting. I'm new to Iray (about 2-3 weeks in) and don't really know what I'm doing. :p This rendered in about 2 hours, which is slower than other renders this size that I've done. (I've been using Dimension Theory's iRadiance sets and they seem to render faster, but I love the colour options for this set. I need to get it softer looking like the promo renders though...and less grainy. My unbiased render-foo is not strong.)

I just want to mention that my laptop is a dinosaur and handles Iray really well. Way faster than Luxrender. Again, could just be my lack of knowledge. Anywho.

Wow. Wow wow wow. That is stunning!!!

I'm still struggling with iray, have no idea what i'm doing and don't understand it at all. LOL. All my test iray renders look terrible, so now I'm thinking maybe I should grab these lights and see if they help. Who is the skin/morph you used?

I'd be curious to see other people's results with these lights...if you want to show them :)

    I am a light fanatic.

    I love lights and lighting.

I can not think of a light set I don't have.  :/  But that is personal problem.

I can say that this light set is one of the best.

I honestly can not recommend them enough.

Give them a try, the worst that happens is before 30 days you return them.  :)

    But I doubt you will.

I second this recomendation. There is nothing weird or sofisticated in the product. It is just a very well done collection of light rigs presets which are the best starting points to get interior lights when using Iray. In fact, I have using the rigs with HDRIs to lighning my exterior scenes also. It is a must! Give it a try, as mentioned above, at worst you can return it before 30 days.

What's the difference between the "environments" and the "lights" in the set?

Do you use both, or just one?

(keeping in mind i'm new to iray and not sure what to do really)

Think of the environment as kind of like ambient light.

The "lights" are kind of like your key light or main light (casting the shadow).

So yes, you want to put both in.  You can choose if you want the environment to be visible or not.

Saiyaness has it in her DAZ Gallery and she mentioned it was one she was working on for Genesis 2 :)

I can't wait to try these out when my replacement vid card arrives.  I saw, I read, I bought and then my new card died so have to wait wait wait... brilliant promos.  They really do give a nice painterly expression to the promo renders.  Quite impressive!
