I have "Minny for A3" (from Rendo), but the various face expressions (.fc2 files) don't seem to have any effect when I double-click their content thumbnails while I have A3 (or her head) selected. No errors either. Is there a trick to getting them to work, or might they not be compatible with DAZ Studio in some way, or is this part of this product known to just be broken?

you haz aiko's morphs loaded?
I think so, but I don't know how to verify for certain since I don't actually know what specific morphs are needed... I can't actually locate them (they are lost somewhere in my content library), but the pre-saved figure I'm using (created many years ago) is supposed to have them, and I see for example the realistic morph which should be part of the "Aiko 3 Morphs and Maps" package and thus suggests they are probably loaded. I may try to download and reinstall those just in case something isn't right.
First, A3's morphs were built in, unless you're talking about some addon like kioki. Or maybe you have A3LE which was free but didn't have morphs.
Second, sometimes the FC2 just loads a dial. Then you have to find the dial and dial it up manually.
I did a reinstall of "Aiko 3 Base - 3D Anime Girl" and "Aiko 3 Morphs and Maps" just in case the old version I had had been fixed in any way. It would appear that the only extra morphs that ship with A3 are the "!All SP Body INJ.pz2" and corresponding remove morph (which I'm not sure what they're for yet.). I wasn't able to locate any new morphs that get added by the Minny .fc2 files, but given the huge volume of them to scroll through, it's always possible I'm missing them. However, it ocurred to me to try looking at one of the Minny .fc2 files as a text file. I'm unfamiliar with how they work, however based on what I see I'm hazarding a guess that they contain, among other things, maybe the names of the morphs they set and the values they set them to? For example, "targetGeom HdStylized" is in there along with a number a few lines farther down, so I checked that value before and after double-clicking the .fc2 file, but it stayed at zero.
Those morphs are for the A3-SP3 hybrid that had A3 head but could wear SP3 clothing. They have nothing to do with facial morphs.
I remember having similar problem(s) with another old product. In my case it was due to DS being way more strict with cr2/pz2/fc2/pp2/etc syntax than poser. Expression files are very simple so I'd guess the problem is braces placement. Load a non working fc2 into notepad and look if any lines have "{" or "}" in a line with something else. DS needs them all in a single line.
If the item your loading is labeled !Aiko 3 in the content library, then that's the full version of A3, her morphs are built in but like the rest of the Gen3's they don't have any groups set up in the parameters tab, so if you have her root node selected then the morphs are hidden under General.
FC2's either dial up existing morph dials or INJect morph deltas into any empty head morph channels, if nothing is happening and the log doesn't show any errors, then chances are the FC2 can't find the channels to dial or INJect into, so you'll have to open them in a decent text editor (not notepad) and see what the file is trying to do.
Ok thanks, I'll have a closer look at the file's syntax later when I get a chance.
Looks like the problem is with the terminating curly bracket for the version number:
version
{
number 4.01 }
change it to:
version
{
number 4.01
}
Way ahead of me, Taozen. Thanks, I made the suggested fix to all 6 faces plus the reset, and that worked great.
If you use notepad++ (free to download) it can be set up to highlight matching braces.
