Daz Studio 4.8 HELP!!!!!!!!!

I have been using Daz Studio 3 for a long time because it was EXTREMELY user friendly.  I could find everything I wanted with just a few mouse clicks and I could build a scene in almost no-time flat.  But I decided I needed to upgrade to Daz Studio 4 because V4 is being supported less and less.  Fine.  Except I"m about to tear my hair out just trying to figure out a few simple things.

I know where all my content is and can load it.  That's not a problem.  My problem is that I don't know where to go to set the size of my scene.  I make book covers for myself, so I generally use a 2400x3000 at 300 dpi, but I cannot figure out where on Earth I put that into Daz Studio 4.  There is nothing I can see for that.  And I've looked in the manual, but it's like reading Greekf and it has no pictures showing what the heck they're talking about.  All I want is some basic, easy-to-understand information about this new program.  Can anyone direct me to it?  I've searched forums but no one seems as incompetent as me at figuring the basics of this program out.

Thank you.

    Render Settings Pane:

Set the "Constrain Proportions (Global)" parameter to Off.  (So you can set one of the pixel size parameters without affecting the other.)

Set the "Pixel Size (Global)" parameters to 2400x3000. (W is width, H is height.)

Set the "Constrain Proportions (Global)" parameter back on.  (So if you want to render a little smaller or larger, you only have to set one of the pixel size parameters, and the other will be automatically set so the aspect ratio doesn't change and your render is the same relative shape.)

Don't know where/how the dpi comes into the picture though.

DPI is a 'print' setting and not a render setting.

If you prefer video tutorials, try the ones at the DAZ page: http://www.daz3d.com/help/help-daz-3d-video-tutorials/

They are for 4.5, but it should give you at least an idea about where things are.

    and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yPgo3vh_2I&feature=youtu.be

There are more tuorials here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/32246/daz-studio-4-6-user-guide-and-quickstart-guide#latest

Also, because DAZ Studio now has Iray as the standard render engine, I strongly recommend this thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/56788/iray-start-here#latest

It also has some video- and tutorial links.

HEllo, I'm trying the above but it's not working for me as every time I try to change the current values they go back to W: 1135 H: 857. Is there a way you can help me PLEASE!!!

    Best Regards

Check your camera. There probably is a constraint setting.

Select your camera and in the Parameters Tab, check for the "Local Dimension" setting. "Use Local Dimensions" should be turned to "off".

Unrelated to setting the dimensions, but important *to me* just the same laugh: everything in my Content Library has suddenly vanished, in DS 4.8.

Please excuse cross-posting just this once - I also posted in "The Commons". Thanks.

AYou seem to have accidently closed the pane. Check for the small knob below "None" in your image, and klick it. That should bring the pane back.

Oh yes, I get it. Thanks!!!

For those new people who may not be aware of this, these "slit" rectangular things that appear here and there are actually an active tool. They look something like this quickie illustration. One important place where one appears is on the left side of the Render pane or window, when you are rendering with Iray. Clicking on the thingamajig on the left side -- and note that it is very small -- pops out some options, incl. the ability to increase the render quality by a few points (the default is 1.00). Just input a highter number and hit Resume, which in this case means "keep going" or "extend the rendering time a bit", when using Iray.

Glad you got your pane back! smiley

Yes, you can also adjust certain light setting values. It comes in quite handy.

I wish there were some guidelines as to changes to the values though. Most things I've tried continue to blow up - much too bright or completely black.
