If you just recently started using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) or recently upgraded DIM, you may want to check the content installation path settings.

The default installation path the DAZ Install Manager installs to is: C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

Please follow these steps:
1) Open DIM and log in.
2) Click on the gear icon in the top right corner.
3) Click on the Installation tab and you will see "Label" and "Path" and will see the path in which DIM is installing to.

You may need to add a new directory to the DAZ Studio Content Directory Manager.

Please follow these steps:
1) Open DAZ Studio
2) Click on the Edit menu located at the top left.
3) Click Preferences...
4) Click on Content Library (top right)
4) Click the bottom button "Content Directory Manager"
5) Click the arrow next to DAZ Studio Formats to open it.

If the path that DIM is installing content to is not present, you will need to add it.

You can do this by selecting DAZ Studio Formats. You'll know it's selected because there will be an orange outline around it. Then click the "Add" button on the left under directory. Browse to the Installation path from DIM (C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library) and click Select Folder.

Now you should see two paths:
1) Your original installation path before you installed using DIM (C:\Users\username\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library)
2) The new DIM install path (C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library).
Click Accept in the Content Directory Manager and restart DAZ Studio.

Would you know why DIM content that was manually installed is not showing up on my Smart Content tab? The majority of my G2M/F content was manually put there because of my runtime setup. It all shows up in my proper folders in my content browser, but does not show up in smart content. It's impossible than none of it has meta data.

Did you copy \Runtime\Support folder also when you manually installed? If you did, did you import the metadata in DS?
Right click the Content Library tab > Content Library Maintenance. In the window that pops up check Re-Import Metadata and run it.

Yes. More times than not you have to re-import metadata with manual installs. You don't have to do it at all with DIM installs

Looks like DIM will actually be less work than not!

Everytime i let DIM do its job by itself it screws up. I have a c: drive and a huge d: drive. Where should i install main DAZ studio and everything else so they can find eachother later on? I think many people loose interest already in the installation process since files are scattered all over the place if you dont keep your tongue straight.

Open the DIM preferences (gear at top-right), go to the Installation tab, click + to add a new location, name it and click ... to set your location on your D: drive. Either set that to Current in the Installation tab or by clicking details in the main interface and picking it from the list.

IN DS right-click on DAZ Studio Formats, and Poser Formats if you have Poser content, and select the Add ... Directory command, then select the same folder as you set in DIM.

    Hello Richard,
I have run out of space on my 'C' drive, and wish to 'migrate' the (very Large) content files to my 'D' drive.
I have already created the path to the DAZ location on 'D' some time ago (when it looked like the 'C' drive was filling up), and DIM has already installed most 'new' products to this drive. But I only recently realised that the 'Downloads' was still sent to the 'C'
With other stuff installing (and all updates going to 'C') it has now run out of space.

I created duplicates of the folders required(used) in the 'C' drive, and then migrated the files etc in the 'D'/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/download/' folder
In 'DIM' I updated the Downloads location to 'D'/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/downloads...

Now (of course!) when running DIM it sees no products installed, but shows everything ... downloads, and updates, ... in the 'ready to install' and 'ready to download' sections.

Is there a way I can 'inform' DIM thet the files (and manifests) are already sitting in the new location?
I would prefer not to reverse the work already done, and have to re-populate the 'C' drive...

Edited to correct new 'InstallManager/downloads path..

    any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Vince

I think the problem is that you (as I understand you) also moved the manifest files. I also moved the downloads folder to another drive and changed the path in DIM but left the manifest files in the DIM folder on C:\Users\Public..., and that's working fine. I think DIM expects them to be there. The manifest files don't take up much space, so there's not much point in moving them anyway.

The manifest files and thumbnails locations can be changed by adding paths to the OverrideManifestDir= and OverrideThumbnailDir= line in the Account.ini file in c:/Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Daz 3D/InstallManager/UserAccounts for Windows users.

The downloads can be pointed to a new location in DIM, but the manifests (and tyumbnails) need to be moved by editing the .ini file. Go to

    C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts

and open the Account.ini file. Enter a new path, using / and not \ as the folder separator, for the path overrides like this

    OverrideManifestDir=F:/DIM/Manifests
    OverrideThumbnailDir=F:/DIM/Thumbnails

Ah!, OkeyDokey, I'll shove the manifests back. As you say, they are not huge.
As a side, I am actually playing with DAZ right now, and, though DIM says I have no content installed, the Content, and SmartContent section is working fine, ... see's all the content across all (3) locations.
I'll relocate the manifest files to their original location, and hopefully DIM will be less dim, .....

thanks a million for the quick (and helpfull) response Taozen..

Edit, ... Thanks Richard, and everyone else who responded while I was replying to Tozen.
I'll need to quit out of DAZ now, before I attempt to do any tinkering with DIM or other files

I'll go QRT now, and wish you all well, and thanks again...

Where are the default locations for Mac users?! I apologize if I missed the answer while skimming though the topic.

You see them in DIM, and it depends on what version you have, but /Users/Shared/DAZ 3D ir a good place to look.
