Previous Daz Studio versions gone after installing DAz Studio 4.8
Hi,
Yesterday I installed daz studio 4.8 using the install manager.
Upon starting my PC today I noticed that my installations of both daz studio 4.6 and 4.7 are gone.
I realy need those as it turns out daz studio 4.8 cannot handle all the shaders daz studio 4.6 could...
How do I get these back?
Or if anyone could tell me how to get older stuff to work just right in the new studio, that would be great too.
It's kind of scary when stuff just disappears from your PC without warning...
Is there 100% backwards compatibility with older stuff?
My toon shaders just look completely wrong right now...
Thanks a lot,
Me

Which shaders aren't working for you?
It might not be the shaders, it might be the render engine. The default render setting for all previous versions was 3Delight but in 4.8 the default is Iray. Iray can't render toons, so that may be what's tripping up your renders. Go to "render settings" and switch it back to 3Delight.
thanks for the replies. I'm rendering in 3Dlifgt.
PWtoon isn't working... I'm using them together with Crescents Cel Shaders.
Thanks a lot,
Me
PWToon is working for me , when you say Crescents Cel Shaders do you mean the PWToon presets, I think I have them.
How is it not working? Are you getting an error or is it simply not looking as it should?
It's not looking as it should.
I'll post some pictures to show the difference tomorrow, it's kinda late here now.
Thanks for the help so far :)
Hi,
As promised: the pictures.
Toon 001 is what I was hoping to see (old render of the same file)
Toon 002 is what I get now (No changes made, just loaded the same scne and tried a render)
The hair does render out correctly, but that uses other shaders.
Upon checking the surfaces tab, none of the sahder settings that should be there, like the outline, the inner line, etc are there.
Please tell me how to fix this.
Thanks a lot,
Me
Hi all,
I solved the issue. I reinstalled both shader packages and now everything works fine again.
Thanks a lot,

FYI, when a new version comes out, the others disappear from Product Library. Always save a version in an external harddrive or on your computer before you install a newer version. ALWAYS.
to expand on what Novica recomends I think you can right click on the version you want to archive (as long as it's what's currently installed on your computer) and see the path to the installer, then copy it to another archve. Once you accept and install a new (General Release) version the non-archived one will be deleted so there is no going back without the archive you manually created (you made the archive yourself, right?) you can't re-download from DIM or Daz3d.com
Keep in mind if they are built to be version specific, making sure you have the most current version of both is recommended. Sometimes "keeping those old versions" isn't always best. Many times just reinstalling fixes the issue due to the pathing in the application. This is especially true if you use betas vs release etc.... Just something to keep in mind if an archived product doesn't play nice with a newer version of DS. :)
