How much backward compatibility will there be between Genesis, Genesis 2 and Genesis 3? If the answer is none, then G3/V7 is going to be pretty lonely and naked most of the time (if Genesis/Genesis 2 clothing won't be able to autofit her).

Compared with most figures on the market the Genesis family is one of the most backward and forward compatibile models on the market.
Genesis 1-3 can share clothes using autofit, and it is possible to move morphs between them. The one thing not possible is to put pre G3F skins onto G3F.
Good to hear. Will we have to buy some product to have that work (like Genesis 2 shapes for Genesis 3)? I didn't see anything like that in the store, and I think for Gen 2 you needed to get the shapes so that auto fit would work.
The autofit clone for G2F is included with G3F. For others you could autofit to G2F, save, and then convert G2F to G3F.
You can do as Mike suggested, or create your own clones for Genesis 1 and V4.
It is the first week of live of G3F, We don't have all the tools in the store now, it is a cuestion of time. Conversion is posible, as Kattey shows in his/her thread. Some PA will come with the apropriate tool.

It is being worked on :) I know that some people have chosen to make the conversions manually, which is fantastic, But not everyone wants to go through that effort. Besides, I've noticed that, even with optimal settings, the shapes do not transfer perfectly and then things like EyesClosed still need extra morphs. Additionally, extra morphs are needed to help smooth out certain bends or shaping morphs, such as Breasts Gone, etc. Unless a person has the modeling software, or the skills to use them, then they will have only a so-so transfer of the characters. I am taking the time to work with each of the G2F shapes for a perfect version when applied to G3F.
As for Autofit, you do not need these shapes for that to work. G3F already includes an autofit clone of G2F to make clothing and hair transfer to G3F properly. The Legacy Shapes I am working on are simply to add the Genesis 2 Female shapes to your G3F shaping library. They will just add some more flexibility to her until more G3F characters are introduced to the gene pool.
Just as a little teaser, here is Girl 6 transferred to Genesis 3.
Wow!
Ok, I want :)

I'm pleased to hear you are working on the shapes - G2F had quite a few are you hoping to do them all, and will they be packaged separately or all in one pack.
I am planning to make all 16 conversions (8 are finished already), but that doesn't mean that all will get approved. They won't be all together... It would be very expensive with 16 morphs, plus splitting them up into similar themes will make it better for people who want, say, only the Real World shapes or only the Stylized or only the Teens. It remains to be seen, I haven't even discussed it with DAZ yet. But, seeing as there won't be any foreseeable way to get the textures to G3, I will keep the packages reasonable and offer some sort of multiple pack deals. Stay tuned.
Thank you will look forward to there release.
So if I continue making clothes for G1 people who use G3 will still be able to use them? I haven't downloaded the G3 figure yet because I've been spending my every waking hour in a bandwidth restricted location and will be here for the next few months.
Ghastly...don't fret it. Your stuff is converting nicely. I've done quite a bit of it to G2 and a little of that to G3F. No problems, so far.

Sweet. Can't wait to see what the new figure is like. Is it as nerfed as G2 was out of the box or does it have a set of basic body morphs like G1 had? Is G1 still being included as the default Studio figure?

All of the Genesis Starter Essentials are still included.
...the big issue I have with G3 is lack of texture map compatibility. G3F has a different Material zone setup which makes all previous skin maps and skin texture resources obsolete. I invested a small fortune in merchant resources for Genesis/G2 which are totally useless with G3 due to the mapping change.
To use older skin maps with G3 we are back to the days of Gen3 to Gen4 conversion will require a totally new texture conversion tool. Sadly 3DU has abandoned further development of the Texture Converter for the PC platform. Unless someone else pics up the ball for myself, G3 is not a viable option as I cannot afford to purchase an entirely new library of new character/skin maps that are exclusive to the new figure.
