Wow! How da heck did you guys do all that? Is that Brigade being used for that demo? Well... it is a bit slow compared to the real thing. I just have to say that.

Octane 3 will have a better support for the Mac platform since other video card types will be supported.
There was a beta for the Mac but interest was very low, will review and check with T3

Iray has been around since before Octane and has been included free in 3DS Max since the beginning of Iray and free in Maya for about a year.

Wha? I've been using Maya since 2014 and never heard of this. Where do I get it for Maya 2016? Or are you thinking of Mental Ray?

Nvidia's page says it's "Coming Soon" so they don't even have one yet. There's a 3rd-party Iray for Maya plugin but it's definitely not free.

On the original topic, the Octane plugin for DAZ is terrible. It's also stuck on v1, so don't hold out hope that it will be upgraded to v3 after it comes out. The Maya plugin sucks too, but at least it's updated to v2...

You may want to check again, the Daz plugin is on ver 2.2 and version 3 is being tested
2.2 has addressed a few issues from previous version and added more features.
IRay implementation in studio has progressed at a fast rate and has proven to be a great rendered
Adding PBM to studio has lifted it to a whole new height and broaden I s use amount the communities.

But like anything else we alway crave more before we enjoy what is on our plate. (That strawberry cheesecake over there looks great, while you are eating a huge steak dinner).

The Maya plugin sucks too, but at least it's updated to v2...Iray is supposed to be in there. (In Max it is part of the download in Mental Ray.) The Autodesk people demoed it for us as in there, though that could have been a beta.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/iray-for-maya.html NVIDIA talks about it here and doesn't mention 0x1.

http://lesterbanks.com/2013/07/setting-up-nvidia-iray-in-maya-2014/ mentions installing it if you have 3DS Max in 2014.

It could be that since I got that information plans at Autodesk have changed as well.

Sorry I am not well versed in Maya. :)

Oh, so they did update it to v2...nice. Still, a year late, for a product that costs $400, is not good enough. Especially now that Iray is free...

Unfortunately their product page still says "Coming Soon." And I can't find it anywhere in Maya or Mental Ray or on the Autodesk download site. Looks like it's still closed beta or vaporware...

    It was just announced;

Octane also supports out of GPU RAM, and it only costs 5% or so from your rendering times.

Going back to the original post on the topic.

I can also point out that even with this announcement, an NVIDIA card will still work with Iray, Octane and GPU mode on Lux as they do both CUDA and OpenCL. (And the OpenCL benchmarks on the 980Ti and TitanX that I have seen so far are better than the high end AMD cards.)

So far, from what I have seen, if a program has both OpenCL and CUDA, the CUDA version benchmarks faster.

So while you don't have to buy an NVIDIA card, for Iray or Lux, or even cycles, (you do need one for the current version of Octane) buying one is likely to give you more choices and with Octane and (especially) Iray give you better performance.

If you go here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/iray-for-maya.html there is an apply for the Beta program right under the notify me button.

As an Octane user, I thingk Tugpsx should have said, updated to OcDS V2.2 "last" Beta, (with a few bugs)

Despite promises (information about the development), there is no information in regard to the release dates about the real (final) v2 release on there own forum. And also nothing in regard to OcDS v3

Octane for DS was a mess for a long time, but it's excellent now. The 3.0 alphas have all been outstanding in my opinion. Right now, it's very stable, animation works without any issues that I've encountered, same for geografts. The UI is extremely intuitive, drag and drop materials is an awesome touch, and it's a lot faster than Iray. It's expensive, but in my opinion it's finally worth its cost.
