Error message when applying materials to Genesis 9 anatomy

in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

 I am trying to apply a material to the eyes of my character. As you can see from the attached file, the eye is selected, yet when i press the material this error message appears.

    That's a hierarchical material preset, so you're supposed to apply it to the figure, not to the eyes.

    Applying it to the figure shouldn't be a problem, assuming the eyes are correctly parented to the figure, which they are not in the OP's screenshot.
