A3 and V3 materials compatibility?

Is A3 supposed to be able to share materials with V3, or not? I couldn't remember, so I tried, and found that a randomly-chosen V3 material seemed to apply to parts of A3, but not the middle of the legs.

A3 and V3 are not related in any way, they are both standalone figures. A4, by contrast, is a morph of V4, so you may be OK there.

There may have been texture convertors at some point for this

Just looked in the store and there is this : http://www.daz3d.com/texture-convertor-2-tc2-bundle but I'm not sure if it converts from V3 to A3 or vice versa?

Actually A3 can use the same textures than V3, the prtoblem is that it had an aditional material zone in the legs (hence the blank space you note). There used to be an script in 2.3 that fixed that problem, but I don't know if it works with later versions of DS.

A3 is almost certainly going to be using the Default DAZ Shader so you can just select one of the leg surfaces that is textures, Edit>Copy>Copy Slected Surface, select the knee area, Edit>Paste>Paste Selected Surfaces.

Anyone know why A3 (and only A3) got this material quirk. Is anime/manga themed art big on different colored knees?

H3 can use MATs from M3 and D3, but has the same issue.

The script is A3 H3 LegMat Fix (LegMatFix.dsb) by DeltaX15.

However, I believe that .dsb files don't work past certain versions of D|S. It is working in 3.1, but not in 4.8.

DSB is a binary (compiled) script and it's probably the deprecated functions around the DS 4/4.5 time. It can't update because it's compiled.

For creating second skin clothes - something that is rarely used nowadays.

ALL Generation 3 Characters can use the same maps. Aiko3 and Hiro3 have a few extra mat zones that will require manual setup but can easily be done in the surface tab with copy and paste. Then you can save out your own preset for them.

Copy & paste works fine to fill in the gaps, thanks everybody!

There's an add-on script that might work in later versions of D|S:

Hiro 3 got the same quirk. I don't know why, though.

H3 is mesh-identical to (in other words, might as well be an MT of) A3.

Another useful tool (I toot my own horn) is http://www.sharecg.com/v/33086/view/11/Poser/The-Mad-Albino-with-UniMAT-Merchant-Resource -- it comes with an albino male skin, but the MR part is that you can put any Gen3 skin into the PZ2 and apply it to any comparably-mapped figure.

And a DSB is not necessarily encrypted or binary; it's just compressed from the DS/DSA version. The encrypted version is DSE.
