If we didn't, we'd still be using Dork and Posette :)
I'm a bit disappointed that there wasn't a change in the eyebrow area as all the SSS and other effects seem to wash them out. I though for sure the new Gen figure would go back in time a bit and create a zone to separate the brows from the face shader.
Okay, I have looked at some promo images and I have looked at some images in this thread. This will sound harsh, but I must say my feelings. G3 and V7 may yet one day become the standard, but I don't think that day is here yet.
I'm sorry but I don't see it; not yet I don't! The better bends, the more expressions, etc; it's not there to my eyes. I saw one image comparing upper body. I'm sorry, but the lady's shoulder in the G3/V7 image looked uncomfortable to me, her deltoids were far too pronounced, almost like she's shrugging her left shoulder. In fact, I initially chose the Genesis 2 image as the one I thought "had to be" G3 (given all the hoopla). Then I read the caption.
In other images, I am not so sure about how her facial features look, particularly around the eye sockets, along the side of the face and down the jawline; it didn't look masculine, but it didn't look feminine either. I don't often have or see such troubles with G2, either in my own work or in others'.
And in the promo images, I am seeing less definition in the hips and legs in Genesis 3. I am a "leg man", so trust me when I say I know legs. :cheese: Others may disagree, but to me G3 legs seem to be a bit more flaxen, a bit less defined, a bit "less".
Maybe as others say, we are still in "early times". I hope that is true. For RIGHT NOW, however, I don't think any of the V3 bundles are worth their price; completely based on the points I made above. I plan to wait and see what develops.
well all i can say is, I'm waiting on a refund and then I plan to get V7. the base genesis texture isn't very good to work with, then again do we ever use the base texture? But it makes it hard to do a render in the meantime. But i am definitely impressed with the new body. meanwhile i'm doing mostly animals in Iray (can't WAIT till LAMH is updated for Iray, I will be freaking out and over the MOON with happiness!! Can't live without LAMH!) anyway sidetracked.... but i can't wait to play with V7
Seems to be a bug on the genitals; cant post a picture due to terms of service.
Not really looked at the gens addition till now, but the geocrafted area shows up differently with the same settings.
EDIT
That's with the IRAY textures not the 3Delight; they work well under IRAY too - or competitively.
Subtropic: I think at least part of the problem is that, to be frank, a lot of hobbyists just aren't very good at using the figures. Making a character really seem ALIVE takes a bit of artistry and an eye toward good expressions.
So they set a few poses and you get dolls flopped on the screen looking weird.
What will be interesting is when the power users really get up to speed on G3, and see what they can pull off. I'm eager to see what Mec4d renders look like, for example.
Now, personally, I don't think G3 is enough of a difference, what with all the other hurdles, to get on board. I think individual skill is a far bigger element to stuff looking good than the model. (Though I mostly thing G1>G2 was worth it, because of additional controls)
Though I expect in a year or so I'll probably be picking up G3 stuff, despite my protests.
I am surprised no one has posed this question yet; should Genesis 3 be called Genesis? Genesis 1 (or Classic as I prefer) was more than a new figure it was the introduction of a new groundbreaking, award winning TriAx weight map system. Genesis 2 was a concession that a single base had issue that where not easy if at all possible to overcome. But Genesis 3 has dropped TriAx weight mapping in favor of an industry standard system, the mesh has been simplified and has a topology similar to that of a gaming mesh, it is not Genesis.
Well we had this discussion when Genesis 2 came out as well right? Its a marketing term first and foremost. So the name means not so much.
And also I wouldn't say the mesh got THAT much simpler. It's still not a gaming mesh persay. The improvements in the poly flow benefit lots of people, not gamers.
People keep up bringing up games but in reality its not as much to do about that.
If you want a "the Emperor wears no clothes" moment, try using displacement maps to do the same thing you'd do with HD morphs. I've been comparing the two, even playing with translating HD morphs to displacement maps, and getting some pretty good results.
Some things to keep in mind.
+ Displacement maps are cross platform compatible.
+ Displacement maps are better for animating things like pulsing veins or muscle tension than HD morphs, provided the platform supports texture animation (DAZ studio is weak in this area, even with plugins).
- The biggest problem with displacement maps is what I like to call "UV Hell", the weird tendency of some vendors to make their own UV maps when it's totally unnecessary.
- Using multiple displacement maps generally requires LIE, and that's awkward.
Displacements are problematic for me frankly. And I don't use LIE because I dont render natively in DS. But thanks.
The UV thing is always an issue, but morphs don't have that complication as they can be used with any UV set.
Interesting that a G3F vendor item has appeared in Renderosity today, and there are two items for her at the "unmentionable" site. Two days from a new figure release to getting support from 3rd party sites, I wonder if that is a record?
Vicky always gets very particular things out the door very quick at certain places. Anytime there is a new Daz dolly a particular thing comes out almost overnight. Lots of demand for it.
What happens at rendo however is anyones guess.
Well, not exactly...have you looked at the complexity/poly count on some of the main character meshes in the latest games?
They are getting close to or, in some cases, surpassing the poly count of the new base figures (some games are in the 30 to 40k range (tris)). Even some of the NPC (especially 'boss' characters) are getting way up there. Of course there is extensive use of LOD and all sorts of texture tricks to reduce the load when that high a level isn't needed.
how did you get the boots to fit, I have been trying but they don't seem to want to
With tranfer rigging, see SY tutorial:

G3F bigtoe is a little problem, but I suppose I had not patience trying to do it fast.
The unmentionable site has tongue controls and controls for the Genesis 3 Genital prop. Pretty much a guarantee for sales to that segment of the audience (which I neither admit nor deny being a member of).
I must say the Genesis 3 genitals are quite pretty, but that's probably the limit on that discussion here. I got the impression that the G2 genital props were more of a holdover from Genesis 1. I guess the new mapping required something new between the legs? Or is there a slight sea change towards a bit more naughty here? Rendo's data leak left the door open a bit for a few more sales here.
I'm sure Michael 7 will have a shiny new, uh, stick for Genesis 3.
I would say that it is not necessarily the time between generations that matters so much as the justification for a new generation. Most of the Vicky/Mike generational leaps so far have had clear and significant points of difference. I am not sure that Genesis 3, certainly from the user's perspective, is that different from Genesis 2. Genesis 2 also has the benefit of a whole back catalogue of textures which can be used, something which it looks like Genesis 3 won't have.
I have bought these morphs packs three times now, and for some reason to me they seem to get less detailed with every new generation.
I just think the gaming tilt to the discussion is overdone. I could say a lot more around it but that would just be giving the issue more time than I think it's really worth.
I am sooo looking forward to the Victoria 7 HD Add-on :)
I hope they release it soon :) but not "DAZ soon" :D
I also really hope that we will see many shoes from Chungdan for G3F. The "Strap Pumps for Genesis 2 Female(s)" are amazing! Highly recommended, extremely high quality. True craftsmanship :)
/cheers
I was quite surprised to see the HD dials in the various Victoria 7 morph packages.
At least the weekend is almost here so I can try spinning those dials...
hmm, I do not have a HD dial. Is it bought separately? or in the figure, looking at the knees, hands and feet, she does not look HD at all
Really wish so much of cgi didn't revolve around porn. :/

Some of the shaping dials are HD
Is there still a HD add-on to come though? I was confused because I saw those HD dials, but also saw the thigh high boots in the store had fits for V7 and for V7HD.
hmm, I can only see HD morphs for the brows and such, not a single one for the body or full hd like genesis 2 had
What are these hd morphs called, please?
You haven't even gotten all the kinks worked out of Genesis 2, and you're already trotting out Genesis 3? This is...insulting.
Have you gone mad? Please tell me the vendors and artists aren't going to already dump Genesis 2 in favor of this.
Yep, time to jump on board, or continue enjoying what you have, LOL.
Hopefully there will be a way to use Genesis 3 clothing on GF2 and even Gen1 like we did in the past.
I wouldn't take it personal. and going forward expect a 2 year turn-around for each generation.
People said G1 never had all it's kinks worked out before G2 came along. The argument was that G2 fixed many of the quirks G1 had. Some one will say the same about G3. That's just the cycle.
And of course Vendors will do what they do. Expect to see outfits from G1 remastered for G3, heck we might even get a few V4/G2 items redone for G3. It's pretty predictable :)
I wouldn't get upset about it.
use the search feature (assuming you use parameters and not shaping anyway. I never use shaping).
Just type HD. there are a good amount of them in there. BUt like others have said, its not like V6 was. Not HD head and HD Body.
Its more like the creature creator product line was. Broken into areas. Which is awesome IMO.
They don't list the morphs on the product page, which is strange to me.
