...agh! put Stonemason's Streets of Old London in the cart and went to check out to find the PC+ PA coupon does not work as it is a "new release" (thought I could score it for 16$). Had enough to cover it easily without the coupon (only 22$) but will probably miss using the coupon this month even with the 48% off storewide sale.

Was a major part of my life and a very enjoyable one at that.

To replace the music scores will be in the multiple hundreds today as some were foreign printings. At least my big book of Scott Joplin Ragtime the complete Chopin Waltzes and Complete Preludes were spared as they were on the top.

I bet you could find a lot of those online in printable form, maybe PDFs, if you looked hard enough.

Tapes damaged by water? Was there mold on them? I would think you could dry them out if not.

Coughed up my last spare bucks for Bryce 7.1 Pro. DS is a pain to create album cover art with, while Bryce is slow on my machine it's twice as fast as my ancient copy of Vue 9.

May buy some landscapes, skies, and trees this weekend until the sale is over. DS will still be for pinups and figure-centric stuff, but I'm giving up on alien landscapes with it! :shut:

45 minutes until I leave.. will stop for 2 beers on the way home, then I have some business-related things to do at home before I can unwind. :snake:

More flooding tomorrow... oh joy... :blank:

    ...yes, there was also mould

A lot of the scores were not in the public domain like Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Three Preludes for Piano, as well as my collections of Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Messiaen.

For the music that is in public domain like Bach's Wohltemperierte Clavier (both parts), the collected Mozart Sonatas, or Chopin Etudes, to have them printed on decent stock and bound would cost about as much as just repurchasing the actual scores. Not into having files full of loose sheets.

I can imagine the pain. Back a generation ago when I could actually play the piano relatively well I had a fixation for the Saint-Saёns piano concertos and set about getting the scores for all five. Numbers 2, 4, & 5 (I think) were available commercially but numbers 1 & 3 were out of print and I couldn't find a copy (this was back before the Internet) anywhere I knew of to look. I lived in Washington DC at the time and a friend of mine went to the Library of Congress and asked of they could make copies for me. The answer was yes but I needed permission from the publishers. So over a period of several weeks I wrote letters and got replies and finally was able to get my copies from the Library to complete my collection. Now, they're packed away in the attic and I hope are not getting dripped on or eaten by rats. I would hate to lose them despite not even having a piano anymore.

I ended up being able to play parts of all of all 5 concertos but the 4th was my favorite and I nearly had the whole thing. This is why I describe myself as a frustrated amateur pianist.

    Saint-Saёns piano concerto #4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kX7uaUGw0k
My favorite part starts at 17:24. During the first movement and the first half of the 2nd movement The composer teases you with only snatches of the theme. You know there's something he's trying to say but it keeps eluding you, but then at 17:24 he finally, clearly and loudly states the whole theme in an unadorned simple melody that is then embellished on and amplified to a crashing finality at the end of the piece. It was the madness at the end of the piece that I could never quite master.

You could check out sheetmusicplus.com. They seem to have a lot of choices for the Gershwin tunes. Both of the ones you mention are there. I guess it can get expensive. It seems they are digital, probably PDF format. If you have a tablet, you could mount that on your sheet music stand. :) You can probably get most of the public domain stuff that way, too.

...don't have a tablet as I would rather spend the money on upgrading my workstation instead. Would need a fairly big one anyway (like a 15" x 12" horizontal format - which I don't think is available) to display two pages side by side in full size for my poor eyesight and keep page turning from being a PITA. Organ scores are worse as they are usually printed in landscape format.

So it would still come down to paying Kinkos to do the printing and binding.

    ...Thor's Day evening complaints:

Stopped at the natrual foods market in the hood to get some bagels for brekkie. ALl I could find are the followint: Rasin Cinnamon, Blueberry, Mega Multigrain (which is like eating tree bark), Flaxseed, Quiniona (what the heck is Quinona?) Jalepeno, and Plain. No garlic, no onion, no cheese. Not paying 5$ for a pack of bland plain. ones. . Ended up getting a couple bananas instead.

What really gets me is this fascination food producers seem to have with putting Jalepeno in just about everything these days (even beer and ice cream). The last thing I want after waking up in the morning is to give myself terrible indigestion. A week ago was at the mainstream market and saw my favourite brand limeade on sale (Santa Cruz brand, which is great with Wodka) grabbed a couple bottles & put them in the trolley. As I was heading to the checkout lane I noticed on the label it said "Jalepeno Limeade". Ick and poo. Immediately turned around and went back to the display shelf where I could find no "regular" limeade, just this new "spiked" variety. Put the bottles back and headed to the checkout again sans my favuorute summer beverage.

I can handle most spicy foods, seasonings, and sauces, but not Jalepenos as they are also oily and the combination does a one two punch on the ol' digestive system (same reason I can't eat pepperoni pizza anymore).

So back to tonight's market stop. Saw another brand of limeade I've bought before on sale here. Grabbed a bottle to have with the tacos I am making, checked out and as I was walking out the store noticed it said "Mint Limeade" on the label. Not a very big fan of mint either (sounds disgusting with Wodka). Fortunately they let me exchange it for a bottle of plain ol' lemonade, not as good as lime but I'll live.

What really buggers me is why do these companies have to ruin a perfectly good and simple product with these added flavourings?

I think you have an extra "n" in there, it's quinoa. It's pronounced Kin-wah! It's sort of like rice or barley, but different and very good for you in several ways as I understand it. I've had it in a recipe and it wasn't bad. Quinoa

What's wrong with Raisin Cinnamon? Tasty, sweet, and cinnamon is beneficial as a fighter of inflammation. Blueberry is also very tasty. Admittedly, neither will repel vampires, but...

Quinoa is the hot new thing. One of them, anyway.

It's a grain that's native to the Andean mountains. Supposedly, the Inca warriors were fed this stuff before battle. It's quite high in amino acids. Some call it a "superfood" or whatever because of that amino acid content. Vegetarians & vegans really like the stuff because of all the amino acids.

I really like quinoa. It's a solid replacement for rice or other starches on your plate. It's whole grain, unlike white rice.

The only thing is that supposedly poor Incan people somewhere can't buy as much quinoa anymore because of the extreme demand amongst the rich 1%er eeeevil people in Murica & Europe.

Of course, nevermind that Incan farmers have more cash these days from the quinoa trade. They should never trade quinoa & be poor grubby farmers somewhere so we can admire them from our limousines.

...the raisin/cinnamon and blueberry ones don't go very well with creme cheese.

As to what they are made from, I'll stick to good ol' kosher bagels. Will have to head to the mainstream market where i usually get them tomorrow..

Yep, over here on the left side of the globe, biscuits are not cookies. Nor are they bagels. Biscuits are flakey, buttery and good by themselves for about 10 minutes until they cool at which point they become poor substitutes for hockey pucks unless smothered in strawberry sauce or hot gravy. :-)

Cookies are baked sugar, lard, and various minor ingredients like chocolate chips, nuts, coconut and/or icing. Raisins are often used as an ingredient in cookies but for some that is blasphemy. :cheese:

Bagels are just a poor imitation of dog's leather chew toys. :P
