Blender for clothing morphs

I have used both Blender and have previously had access to ZBrush for a while. ZBrush was good but I can't afford to buy it for myself so I'm back to Blender. I have followed tutorials (mainly SickleYield on Deviant Art) so I have had some success.
The problem I have is a strange one. From DAZ Studio I export a .obj of G2F (base resolution, Zero subdiv, etc.) and then another .obj for an item of clothing. Sometimes I am able to sculpt (Blender Sculpt tool) a morph on the clothing while the underlying G2F mesh is unaffected. But other times the clothing mesh and the G2F figure become a single mesh and if I drag polygons on the cloth the surface of G2F is also dragged.
I can't figure out why it seems to work sometimes and other times it doesn't. Does anyone know of a setting in Blender to make the two meshes separate? In ZBrush this was simple but Blender is anything but simple. I have tried Sculptris but keep getting errors about triangles and have given up on that.

Im no blender expert, but have been using it for a while and it sounds like you sometimes might be importing your second obj while in blender edit mode with the first obj that you load??
This right here. Make sure the human figure is hidden in the scene tab by clicking the eyeball before you export the clothing mesh to morph it.

Ahh - I don't remember doing that before but I'll give it a try. It has been a long time since I played with Blender for this purpose. But I'm a bit confused - are there two things I need to be careful of?
1. Blender must not be in edit mode for the first figure when the second object is imported?
2. G2F must have visibility turned off in DAZ Studio before I export the second object?
Thanks for the responses.

Yes...
Studio will export all visible items as one object...even if they are individual items. They should still have their materials/groups so all is not lost if you must use an item that has a G2F attached...just delete/hide the unneeded stuff in Blender. The same when exporting from Blender...make sure 'Selection only' box is ticked.
If you are in Edit mode, the imported item will become part of the same object...instead of being two separate ones. You can fix it by selecting all the faces/edges/vertices of the second item and hitting the 'p' key...this will separate/create a new object.
Ok - that makes sense, thank you.
I'll give it a try tomorrow.
