Question about use Daz models for making Mods to a game for non commercial purposes

Hello guys, I’m a Virtual Photographer and Modder of Cyberpunk 2077, and got into Daz recently, which then made me think I could make some real nice mods and photos with Daz assets, but then I asked myself if I’m allowed to do it, which brings me here.

I’d like to know if can I use Daz Models (or external stuff) for making mods for cyberpunk? And share it for non commercial gain (post it on Nexus i.e).

I kinda already expect a negative answer to this question, which take me to an other one.. Can I make mods for cyberpunk with Daz models only for private use, and just share the photos I took in-game from it?

Ty

You can't distribute the mesh unless you have an interactive license (and even then I'm not sure how the license works with game mods ... anyone?)

You can render the models in the program of your choice and share any 2D output (so yes, taking the model into your own copy of a game engine and keeping it on your computer for the purposes of making 2D renders is okay (though I can't speak for the game assets being rendered alongside but most game companies welcome the fan art)).

Edit: Caveat - I'm not Daz so the only way to get an 'official' answer is to send a ticket to Daz via the help center.

You cannot use DAZ assets for mods, even with an interactive license. the license is only for original game design and not modding. You can do anything for personal use, but I don't see the point of posting images of it since all that will do is encourage others to use DAZ assets for mods and many WILL post those to the nexus and other places and make more work for DAZ when trying to get those removed.

Unless, of course, if the "mods" only consist on 2d pictures of DAZ assests to be used as an static background, right? Or rather short: 3d is DAZland's - 2d produced by us using that 3d is ours...

And posting pictures of what someone manges to do with DAZ assests on his own entertainment only on his own rig might encourage others to go shopping at DAZland to get the means to make stuff to be used only on their own rigs for their own entertainment...

I really understand why some people have to be so negative sometimes as soon as games/gaming is involved. A large part of DAZlands success and the money they make comes also from 2D pics being produced with DAZ and used in games...

  • Thank you guys, totally understood.

I have worked in the games industry and visit many game related forums and discords daily and have used DAZ assets in many game mods for my own personal use and I see DAZ assets shared and posted freely all over the place, so in my experience, in general gamers are not going to spend money at DAZ, only check it out so they can export and share with others. I highly doubt a big part of DAZ's income come from those using them in games, more like an after thought based on what I see. I actually see more 2D use of DAZ assets used in games, probably because it is easier and doesn't require any extra licenses.

There are dozens of blender based free models you could use for such mods.

Yes, that's what my post was supposed to say. Thanks for clarifying it.
