Space Saving considerations - Morphs, Extra Textures
I was researching some products before buying today, and I ran across this thread:
Dailey Hair File Size? (solved) - Daz 3D Forums
Which was the first I'd really heard of, or thought of, removing material I don't need.
In that thread, there were some comments about worthwhile amounts of drive space being consumed by things like character morphs and texture files. I'm planning to upgrade my art computer sooner than later, but in the meantime, I do have to start being mindful of file size. As someone who never uses characters, I would happily delete character morphs if doing so doesn't hurt ordinary usage of the product. Is it just a matter of identifying the correct files and removing them from the folder(s), or does Daz keep track of that in the database it uses for products? I don't need the hassle of breaking perfectly functional products if it's a difficult or dicey operation, but if it's easy ...
Same thing for unnatural hair colors. I rarely have call for that sort of stuff in my stories.

Morph files are tiny. HDRI files can be huge, especially in 16K. Some prop textures are also large. In some cases, prop textures can be downsized to 50% and used to replace the originals. This saves memory as well as disk space, but you'd have to delete the originals. Unless you're doing closeups of walls, lower resolution textures may have no downside. Normal maps can also be large, but if those are needed to make the item look right, there may not be a choice. I've used some HDRIs as both lighting and a backdrop, where higher resolution makes an obvious difference, but the size of some recent HDRI packs is shocking.
