Thank You Daz & Vendors for Making Genesis 8 Great!

I was just working with Mal3Imagery's Two-Piece Business Suit, and I felt so grateful that he persevered until he got this versatile, much-needed essential to us. Then I thought about the complementary Gentleman Suit that was released shortly thereafter by debut vendor Jason Fang, and I could see that the Genesis 8 line---along with being able to autofit & Fit Control (Thanks Zev0 for making our lives better!) Generation 3 (Thanks Shay), 4, Genesis 1-3 items---is almost comprehensive in its scope.

All of the character types that are available, the smorgasbord of Core Figures from both versions, and the abundant variety of morph packs bring Genesis 8 far beyond the hopes I had for it 5 years ago when we were making threads about what we needed. Just about everything I needed to make stories visible is available for Genesis 8.

And I wanted to say congratulations for a job well done, and THANK YOU ALL for your dedication and hard work! Thanks.

    Indeed.

My G8/8.1 library has far and away eclipsed that of my V3 library, which was my largest one before that (I never took to V4/M4 much...lol).

  • It's always nice to get a daily dose of positivity, so I appreciate the thread @xyer0. I agree with you that Genesis 8/8.1 covered a lot in terms of character, wardrobe, items, and themes! I don't think I'll just be abandoning Genesis 8/8.1 as of yet, regardless of the advent of Genesis 9.

  • Thank you is right! My life has changed in so many ways for the better due to G8 as in the past year I've become a freelance animator and am working pretty steadily. So I might complain here or there about something Daz related (IK...IK...IK!) but at the end of the day, it has changed my life situation in such an amazing way that two years ago I never thought would be possible. So thank you all the vendors and Daz for everything that you do.

Joining Daz only a year and a half before G8 was released, I guess I was lucky. The bulk of my purchases are with G8 and G8.1 and the utilities/scripts that allow me to utilize a wide range of products from the other generations. With dForce clothing and strand-based hair and so many improvements, I am glad that most of my experience was in this generation. My hat is off to the PAs who provided me the realistic historical, contemporary, futuristic clothing I craved, hairs; OMG, the characters, old, young, ethnic (no longer just pretty little white girls & ken dolls), but realistic men and women we see in stores and work/live with! For that alone, I thank you all.

I can't wait to see what you all come up with working with G9.

  • I'd like to echo many of the sentiments expressed here. I complain about DAZ with no end, but three things are true for me:

    1. The Genesis framework itself is very effective.
    2. The C++ SDK is horribly under-documented, but I am still grateful for it.
    3. The PAs are DAZ Studio.

To the PAs: Thanks for sharing you artistic talents, I could not be doing what I do without them, and you are all very much appreciated.

Couldn't have said it better. The PA's really make this program for me. There's so much I wouldn't be able to do without them.

Does this mean that DAZ will still allow PAs to create and sell for G8/G8.1?

I don't think they ever tell them that they can't make for previous generations. I think the PA's just decide the new version is where the money is.

  • They can sell for previous generations. There comes a point where you are dealing with diminishing returns though.

As others said, there are plenty of reasons why a PA might stop supporting old generations. For us dropping Genesis 3 support was due to a mix of return of investment and keeping products from being filtered as Genesis 3 era products and getting steeper discounts (regardless of the fact that they were also supporting Genesis 8). When Genesis 8.1 came about, we switched support to Genesis 8 & 8.1 instead. However, many of our texture-based products would work with Genesis 3 with only minor adjustments (yet we still opted not to officially add Genesis 3 support for the reasons above).

So while Esid and I will do products for Genesis 9 (the new UVs are superior in regards to texel density, so there's less chance of getting/fixing seams), we'll also continue to create Genesis 8/8.1 products until we see a significant decline in intro sales.

@chevybabe25 YOU are one of the main ones, lady! Your brows save my character's faces EVERY day. And I don't know why NO ONE before you decided to morph and texture a realistic lacrimal, but I thank God that YOU decided to do so. The natural transition from the lacrimal to the eyeball, the bump that for some reason has been missing until YOU morphed it, the realistic coloring and gloss, the fact that you provided thumbnail loaders for each element of the eye socket---and all I had to do was buy it and load it! Kudos and thank YOU!

@FenixPhoenix You and your partner have given us so many ways to depict our characters' tough lives. Thank you so much for your commitment and thoroughness. Too bad you weren't able to do some short, dirty/bloody fingernails, but you can't do EVERYTHING for me. Thanks so much!

Adding a +1 to the thanks to the PAs who did such a great job creating for the changing genesis generations.  And of course to Daz3D.

    Bravo.  yes

Ah, yes, we still have so many projects not finished. Esid actually did the nails but I never got around to the texturing of them. Having said that, we have an upcoming product that might be close to what you were looking for. It's a second pack of soft skin materials that covers blood, infection, and grime.
