Who uses Vue, and for what?

I used Vue I had gotten with a 3D magazine a couple times... I found it "awkward"... I was intrigued by renders I'd seen with beautiful environments and what seemed like movie quality renders... but eventually I figured out I actually had a better chance of getting that out of Bryce than Vue unless I wanted to spend a lot of money on the required plug-ins... then DAZ got the built in ability to have HDRI backgrounds and that was good enough.

    But I'm lazy and cheap.

...I toyed with it years ago as well, but getting characters from Daz into a scene was a bother and there was no way to adjust poses after a character was imported.  They came out with a means to do it with charcters inpored from Poser, but I heard it was still somewhat cumbersome.

Vue is still in business?  Their content website was hacked and did it ever go online again?

Bentley Systems (or something similiar to that) bought it years ago. The first year or so the e-on software site was down, but it's been back up for a couple years now. The software is totally different than it used to be. And a lot more expensive. It's sub only now too as well, which is why I don't use it anymore.

  • Vue is still in business. I still like it and use it, but I haven't upgraded, and probably won't. Because it's subscription-only now.

I subscribe to Photoshop, but Vue is a lot more expensive and I don't use it nearly as much. If you do use it a lot, it might be worth it, because the subscription includes PlantFactory. Also, you can subscribe for just the time you need to use it, so you might actually save money.

They were hacked, and it was bad. It not only took down Cornucopia3D, it took down their main site as well. I think it was several months before they were back online.

Cornucopia3D is no more. Third party vendors have had to move elsewhere. I think the products owned by e-On are now included in Vue subscriptions.

I have the last version of Vue that wasn't subscription-only, and I have to say, e-On customer service has been decent. If you bought an older version and need to download it again, contact them. They'll give you a link.

  • Since the release of UltraScenery, Vue has become completely obsolete for me.
