Studio newbie question

I give up. Kind of. But what is the secret to installing outside vendor stuff to Studio? It's like playing the game Twister. Most merchants do not pack the zips with proper folder format so I'm at a loss. Half the time I've got DAZ3d folders scattered all over my drive and can't find which one I need to install the items in.

Do all outside vendor items go directly to the My Library ---> Data folder?

You mean stuff that does not come from the DAZ shop?

Usually it's going to go within the folders in your Studio -> My Library -> Runtime folder.

When you unzip it look at what the folder structure looks like in the product and then place the items in those same folders.

And yes, it can be frustrating because not all creators use exactly the same system.

The best result is to make a second library folder. They strongly suggest you do not mixed DIM installed items with 3rd party manually installed items as this can cause things to blow up.

Example: I made a second library called /My 3D Library Rendo for the products I got there and a 3rd for freebies /My 3D Library Freebies. both of these are stored in the same drive as my defaulted DIM content.

Any item that is made for poser will need to be installed in the runtime folder. The data folder is for D|S formatted items.

Another thing to keep in mind is you will need to point D|S to these new folders as well under options. It doesn't matter where you install them if D|S doesn't know about them.

The important folders when you're figuring out what goes where are Data and Runtime -- take those folders and any others on the same level with them and drop them into your content folder, e.g. "My Library" (assuming your OS will merge rather than replace existing folders). Any folders above those can be thrown away.

I don't know if this will help but .......see attached picture ........
The yellowed stuff would be native DS stuff the red is usually Poser stuff that DS can use ,when you open a zip file from where ever ,it should have either content or runtime as a first folder for DS you would place the runtime folder into your content folder,if it's a content folder you merge it into your content folder ,if your folder is a MY Library folder just place everything from the content folder into the MY Library folder ....jeez I hope this makes sense ......I do all of my content adding manuelly .......it's a good way to learn where things should go,can go ,and really shouldn't, ....
