Sorry you got caught in my misplaced complaint about RGB stuff. But if you got that much improvement, you were definitely using the wrong software!
Did you forget that you'd asked it to calculate the value of Pi to the last digit?
...OK hit the forecast high of 102° here.in the 'hood.
It can cool off any time now.
It hit 100 here on the eastside of town. I'm ready for cooler days. My poor kitty is looking forward to being able to go outside again next week when it cools off. Right now, we only let her out in the morning until it starts to heat up. My sister is wiping her down with a wet paper towel right now to keep her cool. I lived 12 years in Los Angeles and don't remember it ever being as hot there as it has been here in Oregon.
I've got one box fan behind me, and one pointed inside my computer, and it's still hot in here.
It hit 94 F here today and 75% humidity, which is about what it has felt like the last few days. I heard we'd have some scattered showers through the day (though last I looked outside, no rain yet). We just stayed in the entire day and ordered pizza so I wouldn't heat things up in the kitchen. I miss rainy days that brought some relief.
...just got home from a quick grocery run down the street (needed Ice Cream, stat!), and when I checked it is now 105° here in the city centre ("Real Feel of 112°).
Never understood why they take a city's official temperature out at the airport rather than in the city proper where most people live.and work. In some cities the airport can beas much as 20 miles away form downtown and sometimes even in a different local climate zone. I always use the midtown temp as the "official" high.
It's currently 9C (48F) outside... Ok, it's 4AM, but that's low for July...
This weather is why I like autumn, spring, and even winter. If I could afford a lap pool I would like summer, but not without one so much. I was going to drive a couple of counties east and see if I could help with the flooding disasters work, but my vehicle would be more a hindrance then a help.
...it was also a bit more hazy today due to a new wildfire that has exploded out of control along the Oregon California border. No major fires here in the state yet but a large area just east of the Cascades ahs a "red flag" alert issued..
Update: :07/31/22
Definitely more hazy today (Sunday) not only from the McKInley fire on the state border which as expanded in size and is totally uncontained, but a spate of new fires here in Oregon, Washington State, and British Columbia all contributing. Eyes have been stinging pretty much all morning and I'm still inside. Removing the fans (which are currently on exhaust mode) and closing the window will turn my apartment into a stuffy oven.
The only bright spot is that the with smoke is filtering the sun it may keep us from reaching the forecast high of 99° (which in the city centre will likely be over 100°) today.
Yestrday was also the annual Portland Naked Bike Ride, which was likely more of a "Naked Bake Ride".
Can it please stop raining in the Ohio Valley, Poor Kentucky, Hundreds are missing. Thousands displaced.
.. a bit of relief today and tomorrow then back into the oven for the weekend with a high to 103² on Sunday Also relief from the smoke as the winds turned more from the west.
We just had our hottest June and July on record, with dozens of days over 100 farenheit, coupled with minimal rain but high humidity, and August isn't shaping up to be much better. To top it off, the water pipe in front of the house burst the other day because of it, so I came home from 6 gorgeous days in San Diego at Comic Con to 3 days without running water.
Germany's topping at 98 F today I think, and up in the North, we're around 90 F during the day. Thunderstorms are forecast and then it will supposedly cool off; but no rain rain forecast in our area here for the next 10 (!) days. Gosh, I so hope they're wrong. We got our underground cistern still filled for the garden if need be, but it's hard work lugging the water around, and of course, we can't do anything for all the fields and meadows of our neighbours that suffer. I hate it, I just hate it.
Still raining here. It's like a day on, then a day or two off back raining again. Getting decked with rain right now and it rained all night. Thunder shook our house in the middle night setting off my Alarm System. The more rain we get the more it floods south of St Louis Mo into the lower states. Most of the time when rains it goes north of us or south of us, it split this time after passing over.
I might've accidentally talked a friend out of moving back here because of how high the humidity has been. Woops. We've had some really hot days. My insulated cup, which can usually keep my drinks cold for 12 hours (and maintain some of the ice) can't keep anything cold for longer than two hours. And non insulated cups have the ice melt within minutes. Yeesh. I'm soooo looking forward to cooler weather. My AC feels like it can't compete with the heat.
91°F and 80% humidity last I looked at my weather station display...
Bleah.
Heat's relented here finally, even had some lovely drizzle. We'll see how long it lasts this time. Hoping everyone else suffering will see some improvement likewise, and soon!
My TV was a casualty of the Heat! The picture was disappearing into darkness as the back light LEDs failed in vertical sections.
...got a replacement TV with 120Hz and G-sync.
Oh my, that sounds bad! My iPad stopped accepting my typing for a while, when I was in my very stuffy office. It's okay again now. I've also read that in some places, the internet failed because the relais boxes or whatever you call them got overheated so much. In one place, the people went outside and put their own garden sun umbrella over the box, and then it worked again. Maybe an idea for others as well, just in case! ;-)
It probably stands to reason not to let this happen, but keep your devices out of extreme heat... the device itself can probably handle uncomfortable temps, but the battery not so much... A while ago I made the mistake of leaving my iPad in my car with the windows rolled up for less than fifteen minutes (not in direct sun either) while I brought a package to someone... when I went back for it, it had shut down and gave a heat warning notification when I tried to start it up... now the battery charge lasts about two thirds as long as it used to... it was an instantly noticeable reaction.
You're right of course, but unfortunately I had to take it with me to my office that very hot day where there's no A/C and the window can only be opened a crack. Universities don't believe in spoiling their staff where I live ...
No A/C... You are lucky your own battery didn't overheat... if you feel like you are going to shut down, drink some cold water... rebooting is very uncomfortable and while you rebooting, unscrupulous people might draw a mustache on you with a marker or something... I wouldn't do something like that, but I hear there are people like me, who might...
Y'all can have some of my rain. Been raining for weeks.
...during the stretch of hot weather we had last week I would shut my computer down in the early afternoon and usually go somewhere cool. One still rather warm evening as I was trying to catch up on a pile of emails that hit the inbox while I was out, I checked CPUID to discover the CPU was running about 25° to 30°C higher than usual, As if I was running a big 3DL render job with UberEnvironment.. Usually it's between 36° - 40°C.
The next great project of humanity will be the distribution of water from where it is to where it's needed.
Either that or picking up the pieces after we fight over the access to water.
With 187 888 fresh water lakes, we have started preparing for invasion of thirsty foreigners...
Well where I live (southern England) we've had the driest July since records begain (in 1836) after having the driest eight-month period (November to June) since 1976 (a famously drought-ridden year). Our river levels are more than 25% below what they normally are at this time of year, so as a result we've just been put onto a hosepipe ban and it may get worse, with no real rain forecast - in fact I don't remember when we last had any real rain, but I think it was in June. (We had short shower at a shopping centre 7 miles away while we were there one day in July, but it was very localised and when we got home the ground was still completely dry.)
We also had a spell of record-breaking high temperatures last month - in the upper 30's C (upper 90's in F) where our normal July average is around 20 C (68 F) and reaching 30 C (86 F) would be considered a noteable heat wave.
I'm sure this would not sound extreme to many of you, but for us in normally "damp, chilly England" it's very unusual.
To all foreigners(except Canadians): Keep your hands off our Great Lakes, they're ours to plunder.
And by the way, weather here at the east side of Lake Erie is still absolutely beautiful, rain now and then at night, a little warm in the low 80sF(26C) during the day.
Blegh... it was hot and humid and I was cutting and sanding lots of wood... it's soooo gross to be coated in sweat that seals in the heat, then add a layer of sawdust... very sticky, very gross.
