Some helpful direction

I've decided to try my hand at modeling. I've worked with both Daz Studio and Bryce for a few years, but always using models built by other people. I would ask for any helpful direction that any of you masters can send my way. I have both hexagon which I know just about nothing about and Blender which I have been practicing with.
What steps do I need to go through to make a OBJ object or of another format and convert it to a Studio prop or figure.
Thanks David

I haven't used Blender and have used Hexagon a lot, though I switched to Modo now. I'd say continue with Blender.
Obj is pretty much the format you want to use if you want to import in Studio. There aren't really steps to it, just export as obj from your modeller and import in Studio (just make sure the scale settings match on import and export).
Depending on what you wish to create, you can turn the obj into a figure or prop in Studio.
so how do you change a obj into a figure or prop in studio
In studio:
File-save as-support asset-figure/prop asset.
That way you can save assets so they show up in your content library.
PS: If you are creating a figure requiring rigging, you need to rig the figure first.
For a prop, import it, set up materials, and save as a scene subset or - better - File>Save as>Support Assets>Figure prop Asset.
For a figure, if it's stand-alone import the OBJ into the Figure setup pane, set up the hierarchy, and create the figure then use the Joint Editor, Geometry Edit and Node Weight Map Brush tools to get the rigging right; for a conformer import the OBJ and use the Transfer Utility to rig it. Once done, again save it as a scene subset or better as an asset.
