OT Anyone else in a Heatwave. Can it rain already.

We're suppose to get a thunderstorm later today,  can't come soon enough. A little worried about the wind and potential hail, but a drop in temperature would be a welcomed change.

Heat dropped, but humidity rose here. But, sadly, not a drop of rain to lower the heat a bit further.
I think I prefer dry heat over humid "slightly less heat".

We're heading into a heatwave, too.  Hopefully, it won't hit 116 degrees like it did here last year.

I miss old Washington, where it practically never got above 90.

It got up to 90 here today. Looks to be high 80s/low 90s until it rains on Monday. That's pretty hot for here.

I'll take a dry heat over humid heat any day. Its a lot easier to cool off with dry heat since more moisture can evaporate from the body and remove heat with it. The only catch is you need to be sure you're frequently drinking water & replacing enough electrolytes because you won't notice the fluid loss until you start experiencing heat exhaustion. Humid heat is just unbearable for me. You can be properly hydrated and still succumb to warmer temperatures if your body is unable to cool itself off. It just keeps on sweating at such a rapid rate that you end up having an electrolyte imbalance. I remember when I was stationed in the south, it was fairly common for our BDU pants, shirts, and sometimes our boots, to have white salt lines in them after working out in the heat during the day.

I live up in the northeast US and we're going to have a high of 90+ for the rest of the week. Glad I have AC for my computer room.

I grew up in New Mexico with the dry heat, and find that I now much prefer humid heat. But yeah, it was 106 here in Oklahoma last night at 9:00 PM. It wasn't a whole lot hotter during the day, but it's still gross. There's been no wind. Just a bit would help. My car's AC decided it was time to break down, so we're quite happy to be working from home with no need to drive right now.  I hope you got your thunderstorm (minus hail) to break the heat up!  Stay cool and hydrated, everyone!

...sounds like you are in Portland as that's what we had here last year after 108° and then 112°. Supposed to get into the low 100s next week, hoepfully that doesn't get revised upwards..

Rain came in last night, now it's cooled down by a lot, which is a relief

It was weird, tuesday was hot (especially for the UK) and the following day was 20 degrees cooler (that's 20 celcius).

You have sent it up here... Last week the temperatures were in the 12-15C range and it was raining on and off, yesterday it got to 23C and today we are already at 27C (it's 12:35 now)

In the Kent where I am, we had a relatively short deluge last night & a huge run-off because the ground is too dry to absorb it. The humidity rose enormously, and this morning we're about 10C (18F) cooler, humidity lower and the temperature is closer to that of a normal summer day.

    Regards,

    Richard

Heatwave here, too (Germany), had more than 38 degree Celsius up in the North yesterday (above 100 degree Fahrenheit I reckon?). No rain to speak of, just a few drops in the morning that drove up humidity. Fortunately, today is cloudy if not rainy, so temps are down a bit, but said to rise up again soon.  Gosh, I want my planet back ...

It's still been absolutely beautiful weather up here in western NY State.cheeky  Yeah, it's moved into the 80s and not actually very humid, but it has rained during the last two nights.  Yesterday was a little windy, but for summer up here this is wonderful weather.  Chilly at night.  My single, 8000 BTU, air conditioner has been able to keep my whole apartment tolerably cool during the day.  I can toddle off to the grocery store and not break a sweat.  Almost time for this area's late summer events.  "The Ellington Town Picnic", the "Gerry Rodeo", and of course "Lucy-Desi Days" in Jamestown.  Just startin' to be the best of summer's potential.yes  (Whereas in Florida I had recognized this part of the year as the beginning of hurricane season.)frown

I think the westerly winds coming across the Great Lakes, keeps this area moderately cool in summer (although sometimes humid), but in winter it causes the heavy snow.frown  (That's why I have 6 months of storable food in my pantry)enlightened

The yearly July flooding has been happening here. It's been an annual event every July since 2015. Not that that flooding means that those other days are pleasant and 72 degrees. They tend to be steamy and 90 - 95 degrees on days that it doesn't rain all day (not often does it rain).

Long Island, NY has been been pretty hot the past week or more... Yesterday it was around 96°F in the shade according to my car (in the driveway) and the sensor usually is very close to the readings from the weather station I have (though that was say 98°, but that exterior sensor was in direct sunlight when I checked)... The roads were crazy hot and one parking lot was around 101°... but that's a big parking lot that's just a massive heat sink.

I used to be in environments where the temps would easily hit 100°+ and after being outside a lot this week I remember how much I hate that... I went and lit another candle in my Willis Carrier* shrine after that.

The temps are supposed to be less today, upper 80s, but the humidity is way up there too now.

But don't worry folks... there is no global warming!

It's just that because the earth is a giant pancake riding through the ether on the back of a giant space toad going through menopause that we are feeling the hot flashes... So crank up the coal fired air conditioners, it'll be fine!

Small town near Würzburg here.. the last three days the temperature was 37, 38 and 41° Celsius outside (on the balcony under a big sunblind/awning, so kinda shadow-y, but facing south so full sunlight on it) and 25 to 30° inside... not that it had been much lower the days before that... yesterday, about an hour before midnight, it started to rain hard, with lightning, thunder and gusts of wind in the "light storm" range... temperature went down to 20° and the rain continued until the early morning, changing in intensity all the time, but at least the thunderstorm ended.

And today we got some nearly comfy 25° C, if it wasn't for the humity, which feels as if it is at 150%.

150% surprise  That's gill weather.  That's when you use fly swatters to bat your way through the sardines.

In the distant past, I was working for a painting company, doing internal lining of flue gas desulfurization plants, the conditions for blasted surface and curing of the lining were strict and there was a recorder present for the relative humidity and temperature... Quite often the recorder showed negative values for the humidity laugh

...sounds like New Orleans in the Summer.  Somtimes I wonderd if I had to swim instead of walk.

Yep, we've been watching you poor Southern devils on the news even before, temperatures seem to have been on record highs where you live since May, like. Hope the humidity will decrease soon at least, it's really the worst when it's hot and steamy. Hot and dry is much more bearable (well, for humans at least I think). I used to live in Syria for a little while, and in August we had 30 degrees Celsius in the flat at nights easily, but you could still sleep somehow. On the stone floor, though, which we laid our dripping wet laundry on before to cool it down - ah well, maybe not so much more bearable, after all ...

...well, they dropped Wednesday's high from 104° to 101° so I guess that is an improvement. Still, upper 90s is pretty brutal here (especially as the humidity rises overnight making it muggy).  At least no bloody wildfires (yet - fingers and toes crossed).

Last year we were lucky as the wind pretty much remained out of the northwest following those three days of Arizona like temperatures, which also kept the smoke from the fires on the other side of the mountains all summer.

Granted, this is usually the time of year we get the hottest weather of the season.

I can't say anything about a "giant"... "turtle", I only have an editorial license for my rantings... if I say those words in that order, that's copyright infringement and they could take away my typing finger... if they do that, how will I express my feelings towards bad drivers?
