How do I exceed the posing extremes
I was trying to pose one of the G2 figures and raise her arm over her head. But the pose feature and power pose only let me raise the arm to a certain angle and then it's like the figure blew out her rotator cuff and couldn't raise her arm any higher. When I did that to my arm, it took weeks to heal. Is there any way to get the figure to raise her arm higher in a shorter time? Think yoga - arms outstretched, straight up, touching over the head.
I'm new enough to DAZ (and to 3D) to have only tried some of the simplest features out, and I would have thought free movement would be a gimme. But it's not happening for me. And I figure there's probably something written into the figures about collision detection or something, but it's not apparent. And maybe it's just a matter of setting a parameter. And that's beyond where I am at this point. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

When you select a figure, there's an icon that pops up next to the translation handles (the red, green and blue arrows) that looks like a person doing the T pose. Click on the icon and a small menu will appear. Click on "Limits Off" and you should have free rotation on your figure.
Woah! haha. I had to look for that icon and had no idea it did anything. But then when I took it off and tried to move the arm it was like the limb was doing a drive by. Haha. But I realized it was about being a bit more subtle with the adjustments. And it certainly worked. Thanks!
Yeah, after turning off the limits, the slightest movement in the parameters tab will send the limbs flying! When I turn off the rotation limits, I prefer to rotate the limbs directly in the 3D view using the rotation tool. You get more control that way.
When posing with limits off you need to adjust the sensativity down. By default it is set to 1.0
To do that, go to the Scene tab, select G2 and go to the options menu (or right click the tab title) and choose "Expand from selection"
THen highlight ALL nodes on G2 and go to the Parameter tab.
In the parameter tab, first go to the options menu and make sure "Consolidate Properties" is checked. Then go to "Transforms", right click just below the last dial and choose "Edit Mode"
In edit mode, highlight your Translations and Rotations and right click on one after highlighted and choose "Set Sensativity"
I personally prefer a value of 0.05 for posing characters but to each their own.
WHen you have set your sensativity, leave edit mode and pose away.
You can save that copy as of G2 as a scene or new figure that can be reloaded for ease of use anytime.
I've always wondered why neither Poser nor DS have an option for changing global sensitivity of dials/controls +/- by a user defined factor by pressing e.g. alt or ctrl when turning a dial. Would make a lot of things easier.
That also goes for the viewport controls. In iClone you can speed up the viewport controls by pressing shift, I often miss that in DS where I sometimes have to spin the scrollwheel or trackball for 15-20 seconds or more to position the scene where I want it. In iClone you can do the same in a couple of seconds.
Great thread! Very helpful!! TYVM all!
