I think brand new buyers to the Daz store would find many of these sales advantageous. I have thousands of items and I definitely shop differently then I did a couple of years ago when I had just a few.
Also as has been mentioned the Daz+ in combination with Any new item is often an easy trigger to a good deal. More and more I find myself delaying interesting purchases until it later time.
Having a new item pop up that would help a priority project is the main reason that I purchase new items when they are released.
I do agree that purchasing a new bundle should count for the number of items in it or at least as Many as the discounted bundle would cover.
...I rarely have a cart worth enough to avoid diminishing returns (and that's if I'm actually interested in a what's being offered); Using bundles as the conditional items is pretty much a "no sale" for me.
I'm not one to dump 100$ - 200$ on a single purchase (a 25$ - 30$ cart is a major purchase on my budget). About the only time I find such an offer interesting is if a Daz+ item is the conditional one (which usually only occurs during the Daz+ sales) .But when it's just about as if not more expensive than what I already have in the cart (even with the added discount), I don't bother.
Exactly.
Folks, remember that DAZ is a business. It's goal is to make money. They do this by offering for sale items which users are willing to pay money for.
Bundling something with something else is the first step in trying to move something that is not moving as well as expected or as well as it was moving earlier.
Right it is a business. But other sites which offer Content for DAZ have much more uncomplicated "discount systems". This make it easier to catch "the best deal". At the DAZ Shop I buy something and get a better offer for that item the next day, and the second day another better offer. But most so complicated with discounts, bundels and more discounts when you buy other things, that you can not easy find out if it is "a real deal".
NS: sorry for my english. This is not my native language. But I hope you understand what I mean.
DAZ is a business, and they can run it the way they want - provided it meets the legal requirments of the locality they are in. I am happy with that. How could I not be happy with it?
That does not mean I will want to play the same games as DAZ in the sales, though. Because I don't. And won't. To give an idea, $20 is a big, and long thought about, purchase for me. Usually the thinking lasts much longer than the duration of a sale. My total monthly budget is £50/$50 for all my hobbies (cross stitch, pen making materials, pen collecting as well as 3D stuff), so a $20 purchase has to justify itself strongly against the other hobbies. If I need to start stitching up a new picture, that'll be 120 skeins of thread colours at $1.40 a colour... Doesn't leave much left in 4 months for any DS purchases, particularly when the vendor is doing silly 'stack-em up's' with things I have no interest in just to increase the spend. In fact, with me, such things reduce my spend because I have learnt that the unwanted items do not increase my useful content and merely languish unused, ignored and resented as a waste of money & disc space.
I have just spent $45 of gift cards over at Rendo. It took me 4 months to decide what I wanted for those $45 of gift cards, after I reached my '5000 reward point' target in early Feb. This despite it being 'free' money from uploading freebies to Rendo, I still thought long & hard before parting with a penny of it.
I suspect DAZ & I are not really on the same marketing page. And that, likely, bothers neither of us.
Regards,
Richard
If it says "any new item" I might be interested. If I need 3-4 new items, instantly NO.
It really depends on how badly I want the required items, how badly I want the bonus discount items, as well as whether the discount actually adds up to something I won't see surpassed anytime soon.
Daily artist discounts regularly reach 60%, so I'm not too motivated to jump at 55% or less, while I will carefully investigate all options when they reach 70% or more.
And that applies to all other discounts as well, if I don't want an item too badly, then why would I get it with 50% or less discount when I could also wait to see it appear with a better discount in either the daily artist list or fast-grab?
I mean I think what makes this complicated is our ongoing "relationship" with DAZ. I have been using DAZ Studio and DAZ content almost as long as I have been married. I am happy that the honeymoon has finally worn off. This makes it easier for me to stick to my budget. A new approach that I am trying is to only buy at the moment of needing an item for a project. This means that I often pay full price. But since I can only render when I'm not doing my day job, I spend a lot less. I am also channeling my money to support high qualitly PA's. I have created my own external product wishlist in Notion.so database, so that I can find them later.
Since relationships are all about feelings. I just have to admit that I am feeling "meh" about DAZ these days. I think I did a lot of impulse buying because of the excitement of some of the bundles. But these days, my brain doesn't want to do the complicated mental gymnasitics only to get some free M3 V3 leftovers.

I think this depends on the conditions...
- If you only need one item, then a wide variety is good, as there might be something of interest.
- If you need multiple items, then I rarely meet the conditions. I'm looking for something pretty specific. On the days when there are multiple items I want, they tend to be in a bundle. The bundle only counts as one item, so I don't qualify.
I guess I don't really mind though. If I happen to qualify, and there is something I want, that's great. But like everyone else, I'm not going to buy something because i'll qualify, and I'm not going to buy something just because I managed to get a discount.
So what does treating you like a valued customer look like, I am curious
If adding a new item (usually a DAZ + item) makes PA items in my cart go to 70% off or higher, I’ll do it. I never buy something I absolutely won’t use. Today I purchased a DAZ + item (the harp and poses) and everything else (all PA items on my wishlist) went down to 70% off which was the lowest price for the year for each so the new item was worth it and I wanted it anyway. Usually the required item will end up free or significantly lower the price of the cart so it’s worth adding it to the cart assuming you really want what’s already in your cart now and it’s a price you’re happy with. I rarely purchase if more than one new item is required or it doesn’t significantly lower the price of my cart to at least 70% off PA items or 80% off DAZ Originals.
Rendo seems to do fine just by offering straight discounts. I rarely see highly contrived and confusing sales promotions there so I enjoy the browsing experience more. I know what to expect, how much I might save and am not being led through a labyrinth of conditions and combinations which are designed to give the impression that the offer is something special when it rarely is.
Having said that, I do find the products I want are mostly here at DAZ so, despite my misgivings about the sales tactics, I do buy here more than the other store. I'd just rather not have this daily waste of my time trying to navigate through various deals and conditions.

I also almost always ignore those sales that require you integrate more DAZ content into your runtime so that the price of product A that you really wanted, will start to approach zero.
I sometimes stumble onto one of those sales by accident by having more that one thing in my cart and noticing the prices, but that hardly ever happens anymore.
I one meelion percent hate conditional sales.
Clearly its a serious problem for Daz too. Every morning at Daz starts with the customer complaints wondering why the funky sales don't work. Sale complaint threads are very vigorous and have plenty of turn over to newer versions of the sales complaint threads because they get so huge. There's even a brower add on to help you figure out what you might want to buy. (That's not really a compliment Daz. Not at all. Nope.)
If you're on a budget and you got stuff in the cart, then you might be wanting to remove items in order hit your budget. That's when the serious problems begin. You remove one item, and suddenly prices start changing, based on any of many many hard to grasp reasons, and not to mention sales bugs. (Heck, you may have put items in the cart a few days before, and not remember any details of that sale at all.. So... maybe you'll need to look up all the exact details to attempt to guess what happened.)
So you have a mish mash in your cart, how do you rearrange it to sort out the overall amount that you might want spend? Seriously... try it some time. Click remove, and pause.. loading... slowly... slowly... its gone. WHEW! But no wait! That didn't solve your sale pricing problem, and everything went up! You need re-add it. (What was it called again?) If you have any experience with the daz cart, then you've probably learned to open the item from the cart.. before removing it, because you may need to re-add it because you may not have affected the cart in a manner in which you can understand. (Did you put 13 items in there? Well, that would be an unfortunate waste of your time. Too bad.)
Over at Rendo, they generally have weekly/daily sales, and I can see which vendors they've highlighted, and maybe look at what they are selling. If I pick an item, I can see exactly what the discount is, and when the sale price will end. (There's no sale's price interdependance, so its all very clear.) Its a bit awkward to remove\readd items if that needs to occur, but its not as time consuming as Daz. One thing that I do note is that I find myself looking through vendor offerings more, primarily because of how the sales structure works. Its also easy to contact vendors and ask a few questions or even offer suggestions. (One vendor made a product from my suggestion. It was a top seller.)
...yeah that is why I wait for the Summer and fall Daz+ sales as Daz+ items can be used as keys to get special and/or additional discounts.
if the cost of a new release to get the added discount is more than the percentage value off of what one has in the cart, it is diminishing returns.
Take for instance the orange banner I received today which states:
Using "Daz Sales Math", the "bonus" savings with a New Release works out to an average of around 7%.
So I did a little experiment, I chose a new release that was on my wishlist: FE Classic Bob Hair, which was priced a few pennies over 16$ (I had other "new" items on my wishlist but they were more expensive). I then added products from the qualifying PA stores to my cart, tallying up the additional savings that were as unlocked on each one as I went, until it came to just over the price of the "Key" item. To have the total of all the extra unlocked discounts simply offset the cost of the required item, I needed to load the cart until the total was 110.40$. The Classic Bob Hair brought the total to just under that (109.91$).. To gain any additional savings over hte cost of the "Key" item would require a greater expenditure.
This is why such offers really only tend to benefit the "big spenders" here, not so much those of us who need to be a bit more frugal (and there are more here than myself here in those straits).
Must admit, today the conditional sales actually are exceptionally bad. Two of them require a coupon code, and since we can only use one coupon code on a cart, one is going to be a skip.
In my case, it's probably going to be the $10 vehicles one that I skip. Almost half the vehicles already cost less than $20, meaning their discount is less than 50%. Less than 5% of the vehicles cost over $30, meaning their discount would be over 67%. So for most of the vehicles, I'm better off waiting for a flash sale or daily artist discount. I gladly already have the iray version of the VIP Jumbo Jet, that would've been an instabuy with this coupon, as well as several others of the "very good deals" in the list. But not enough urgency for the remaining good deals to go on a spending spree.
I've never been a huge fan of conditional sales. There's been quite a few times I've seen the new promotinal ad and gotten all excited for the sale, only to realize the deal requires buying a new item to get the savings. Sometimes, I'm fine with it. Sometimes, I like the new items and actually want to buy them. Sometimes, the discount is actually worth it! Sometimes, the deal isn't enough to convince me to buy a new item at that moment. And sometimes I just have no interest in the new releases. I have to pass up on a lot of sales becaue of conditionals. My income is small, and always fluctuating (I do a lot of freelance data entry work), so I have to be selective with what I buy. And sometimes those conditional sales are beyond what I can afford. That's fine though. I just wait and hope for another sale in the future (even if that means waiting for months).
I think flash sales with conditionals might be my biggest sale pet peeve, though. I started to ignore them after a while.
Not a fan of conditional sales, but Im not going to worry about it.
Recently came back to DS, went back to poser for a long time after the 4.0 release but the latest version of poser seems to be in eternal unstable beta mode and the older versions either have broken scripts or have broken dependancies. I also wanted to see what the genesis fuss was about.
So I'm potentially a whale, there's stuff I want and I have a reasonable budget, but I'm not going to buy anything that isn't 75% off for a Daz original or 60% off for a PA item. If you try to make me do maths on top of that then I'm out.
I only started using daz earlier this year. The way they run sales is totally offputting; it feels like a predatory mobile game. Thankfully I stumbled on the daz-deals extension and now I don't even look at anything that isn't at least 70% off without any extra conditions.
....yeah Daz has been saving me a lot of money lately with these "offers".
If the banner I mentioned above required a "Debut" new release from Thursday's Merlin 8.1 Introduction sale rather than just any new release I wouldn't have bothered as either as everything was fantasy themed (not my interest area) and the character was G8.1.
